Android 5 - when?

I'm planning to get myself a tablet (maybe a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1) soon, but don't want to be stuck with one that is new but has an "old" version of Android.

Does anyone know when the main manufacturers are likely to start shipping theirs with Android 5 - either installed or as a bundled-in fully supported download?

If you go for the Nexus 9 it comes with it preinstalled and being a Google device it will likely be first in line for future updates.

My Nexus 7 received an OTA update to Jellybean a couple of months ago..
It has now been reverted to a functional state running KitKat.

I would be surprised if anyone else will be rushing out jellybean upgrades until it works on the models it was designed for, let alone the ones it wasn't.

Ah, right - so maybe worth waiting a bit longer until they've ironed out the glitches! Thanks.
  • My wife upgraded to 5 on her nexus and it has been a nightmare ever since.Keep with kitkat until all the glitches have been sorted.

But Jellybean is an older version of android than kitkat - do you mean lollipop?

I now have 5.0.1 on my Nexus 4 but have not yet had any OTA release for my Nexus 7. There's a rumour on another thread that there's a 5.1 version on the way, but whether that will include tablets I don't know.

Running Lollipop on by my N5 & 7 and no issues at all, battery life excellent and buttery smooth.

Samsung are notoriously slow in releasing updates for their Tablets and phones so unless you're prepared to root and flashing a custom ROM it's a question of waiting.
