    Options - Load/Save - General

Thanks for that. I was about to start up my pc to check the settings until I saw your reply. I'm pretty sure Open Office and Libre have the same layout for that as they are based on the same programme.

    Hi

Does not the aspire come with a docs program (abDocs)?
    Foxit PDF also?

Add LibreOffice, Google docs as well and it makes MS Office seem superfluous.

Just thought of something else. If you get sent something on word via email can you open this in open office? Can you also edit it?

    Thanks

    Yes totally.

    Neil49 how do I change setting ?
That's good to know as I have open office, put simply could you tell me how to change the default setting for 'save as' to .doc
Thanks for any help you can give.

In Open Office, click on tools and then options and then on load/save then general
Near the bottom - default file format and set the 'always save as' to MS Office (I use 97/2000/XP/2003)

  • Looking for a new laptop as mine has finally given up the ghost.

Have seen one online in John Lewis and the same model can be bought either with "Office" for an extra 40.00. - although I think thismay be for 1 year.

Should I go for this or is the free downloads mentioned on this site quite easy to navigate/download.

All help/comments/advice appreciated as I am not techie minded.

    Acer Aspire ES1-512 4GB RAM 500GB

My original post seems to have lost its thread.

I have just ordered the connect tablet from tesco for the bargain price of 59.00 which includes office for 1 year, if its no good, will order the laptop.
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

I would say once you start with MS word on the tablet, you possibly will continue to pay for it each year.

The free WPS Office 6.0 for Android from kingsoft runs very well on most if not all android devices

Always send CV as a PDF
As a recent job seeker who has been doing agency and contract work for the past 4 years I would disagree.

While on JSA they will require a copy of your CV in .DOC format and threatened to sanction others if the file didn't match their standards.

If you are applying through a 3rd party such as an agency they will almost certainly want to chop your CV into bits and paste it into their own. Just because they can do that with a PDF doesn't mean they are prepared to go to the hastle.

Sorry, Bob, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Always have a version in a .DOC format.
