    Don't. A lot of agencies now stipulate Word document to allow them to (normally) remove certain parts before forwarding to the customer. so a Word Processor capable of saving as .doc is needed

    The free programs work just fine. There are also Office web apps online offered alongside Hotmail. Between the two I don't see any need for a paid version.

    Open Office, Libre Office and WPS (formally Kingsoft Office) can all save in the Microsoft .doc format. The first 2 need to have their default SaveAs changed from .odt (in settings) while WPS uses .doc by default.

    I use Libre Office for spreadsheet returns for a major UK charity and have no problems with formatting when using .xls.

    Hope this helps.
  • Do you work for a company that is part of the Micro$haft Home User Program? If you (or any family do) then you can get the full MS Office Pro for less than £15 :)

    Which companies would that be?
    Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

    We can't tell you that - HUP participation is not published anywhere that I am aware of. Why not ask YOUR employer? Or ask your family members to ask THEIR employers?

    Neil49 how do I change setting ?
    That's good to know as I have open office, put simply could you tell me how to change the default setting for 'save as' to .doc
    Thanks for any help you can give.
    I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
    The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
    I listen all night for your step on the stair.
  • Just thought of something else. If you get sent something on word via email can you open this in open office? Can you also edit it?

    Thanks
