    Well said OP. Some judgemental people on here. Their way being the only way. It sounds like you're both sensible and committed and looking forward to a life together. Maybe not how everyone else would do it, but you are your own people - do what is best for you both. And good luck :)

    OP , my son has done exactly the same thing as you propose
    Everything was rosy for the first 8 -9 months and G/F only paid towards some of the household bills.
    They both decided in December they were not right for each other after a 6 year relationship which started at High School and living together with us for over 2 years before son bought the house.
    She has now moved out, he lives in the house but he has made sure she has been recompensed for anything she bought for the home and they are both very happy with their new lives and are still friends.
    I think you are being really sensible

    I think your being sensible, me and my dh rented for six months before buying our own house to make sure we could deal with the day to day of everything, we then purchased a house and got married 10 months later, it must have worked for us as we have now been together 13 years, and married for exactly seven years today
