you are a LL and yet don't even know the first thing about how a central heating system works (your other thread) and now you are asking about DIY testing for a gas leak
the law requires you to have a Gas Safety Certificate provided by a gas safe registered person - DIY it and you could end up with a £20k fine and a criminal record0 -
Stop been an *** as i tried to ignore you on the other post.
I am doing it for my own home where i live in it and the certificate is inly required if you rent the place out
I am asking whether it is easy or not or should i do it0 -
what makes you think you have a gas leak, can you smell gas? if at any time you suspect a gas leak call 0800 111 999 and an emergency engineer will come out and make sure you are safe.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Nothing just curiousity . I thought i should check it to ensure the boiler is ok before one night it starts leaking and cause death .
I am happy to pay someone if neede but thought i can have a wuick check myself0 -
Gas isn't really that dangerous. The tenants will smell a leak and they will call the gas emergency number and they'll send someone free of charge to fix the leak at no cost to you. This might involve capping off something but the problem of leaking gas will be fixed. What is dangerous is carbon monoxide which has no smell and can kill. You or the tenants won't have the tools to detect this.stranger12 wrote: »Hi All,

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

So maybe that is what i am trying to check for as i saw a video on this topic while ago and couldn't remember the name of it.
They were talking about how you can check the flame colour of your boiler etc.
Is this something a professional can check and how much should i expect to pay ?0 -
If the gas leak is after the meter it will not be fixed by the gas emergency engineer, their job is to make safe. You will need to get a suitably qualified gas safe registered engineer out to do repairs - or by sounds of it service the boiler. Also invest in a carbon monoxide alarm. http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/learn/carbon_monoxide_kills.aspx
As for gas not being dangerous, I can assure you it is very dangerous if not dealt with properly. http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/advice/unsafe_situations/gas_safety_risks.aspx
