Recommendations please :)

Can anyone recommend a good digital SLR Camera please? and the best place to look for a bargain :) My partner and I are buying ourselves a late, joint Christmas present!

I'd go John Lewis or HERE. Mainly for the guarantees.

Thank you RumRat, will take a look :)
  • Are you absolutely sure you want an SLR?

There are some terrific Bridge Cameras, which save a small fortune on extra lenses.

See, now you're getting technical! I know nothing much about cameras. I don't even know what the 'SRL' stands for!!
We would like a digital camera, not too complicated, that we can do more fancy stuff than with a basic digital camera....if that makes sense? Zoom right in, err and stuff

A bridge Camera can certainly "Zoom right in, err and stuff".

My Fujifilm Finepix SL1000 has a 50X zoom, taking it from 24mm to 1200mm focal length.

It also shoots full HD video.

By the sound of it, this is more than enough camera for what you want/need.

I've been into photography for nearly 4 decades, and it's plenty advanced enough for me.

    Nice hat Bob ;)
Will definitely take a look at those, you are probably right, in that its probably all we need.
If I could find a camera that I pick up, aim, without twiddling with anything, that would be the one I would buy :)
What about night time shots, outside wildlife for example?

Thank you photodgm, will take a look :)

    The SL1000 will do that.

Leave it in Auto, and you can switch it on, aim and shoot.

As you get more advanced, you can move out of Auto, and start using the other options, knowing you can always jump back to Auto, if need be.

It'll do all that, and much more.

It's the best £200 I ever spent on a camera.

Thank you again, the advice is much appreciated!
One more thing, at present anyway! What is the difference between a SRL and a SL please?

    "SRL" :huh:

    Do you mean SLR?

If so, an SLR (full name Single Lens Reflex) is a type of camera, whereas the SL (as in SL1000) is simply the name the manufacturer gave the camera, rather like Mercedes naming their cars SL, SLK, SLS, etc.
