Broken fan on boiler, can we get it working temporarily

If you can get a fan at the right price and nothing else is wrong such as water leakage, id keep the boiler. If it were mine, id take the fan apart to its last nut and bolt, clean it, check it and if it looked ok, id lube with high melting point grease and stick back on.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

some of you who should know better advising someone to do something that should be left to a RGI, shame on you :mad:I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
southcoastrgi, my hubby wouldn't take anything to bits, but I think I've spotted a brand new part we need on eBay and we'll get someone qualified to fit it and it will cost less than half the £400 plus labour we've been quoted. What he has done though is spun the fan and got it working for today, I'm just extremely grateful to have some heat, so a massive washing day for me I think.0

Really how hard can a fan be to install? a few screws and a multi connector? Id even guess that if the fan doesn't turn and draws to much current the PCB cuts the whole unit out.
Personally and I don't have the luxury of gas where I live, but I would never hesitate to find a fault on anything, infact to get me up and running Id probably take the fan to bits make a couple of phos, bronze bushes on the lathe and happy days.0 -
What you should be asking is how hard is it to kill your loved ones messing with things you shouldn't be messing with!
There's a reason you're not supposed to be fiddling with gas critical parts!
Oh and £400 plus to fit a fan sounds like someone trying to push you into scrapping the boiler for new.0 -

Of course no one except an RGI can cope with safely working around 240v and swapping a fan.0 -

yes because a 10 day fast track course, always trumps time serving with a journeyman and decades in general engineering.0 -
all i can say it's prob a good job you don't have gas where you live, I've been driving a car for 34 yrs but it doesn't mean I know how to make oneI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

It is a mystery to me how such a simple and basic part could cost £200 or thereabouts for the part only.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
