SuzieSue I have always said for years I didn't want a combi but I always seemed to be the only saying it, maybe I should get a quote as well for a non combi to compare

Very interesting to read SuzieSue, I'll let my hubby have a read through. I'm certainly starting to think just replace it with what's in and hopefully less to pay out, just had one quote for a combi of £3,024 we are thinking of downsizing eventually. I know we have no heating at the moment but at least we have hot water

Yes, I remember a couple of plumbers advising me to replace my system boiler with a combi about 8 years ago when my current boiler was 10 years old. At the time I was tempted to do it as I liked the idea of having nothing in the loft but I am so pleased I didn't as my boiler is now nearly 18 years old and has been faultless since then and I know enough about combis now to know that I would replace it with another system boiler.
  • I only know of one plumber, who was putting a new radiator in for us who said to me, he wouldn't have a combi, even if it was given to him. To be honest I haven't really known much about combis, but I like having a tank full of hot water.

we had it a couple of years ago with our old glow worm

the fan is connected to the flue and it is used to push combustion gas out of the vent, as the boiler kicks in the fan starts up operates a pressure switch which allows the boiler to fire up and if the fan fails the pressure switch closes and the boiler shuts down

as a temporary fix when the fan tried to start a quick flick of the impeller would allow it to run and the boiler to start and run normally, i did this for the 24 hrs it took for a replacement fan to arrive when ordered online cost about £69.00 and it was fitted that night by a friend who is gas safe registered

Could you please let me know which parts are nonsense (I am not a plumber and would genuinely be interested to know).
  • Thanks force ten, I noticed they seem to have the parts on eBay for my boiler. My son in law had the front off it last night and they were trying to spin it, to get it to kick in, but no luck. Prob get him to try again.

I've been told in a previous post our old terraced house wouldn't have had central heating for its first 50 years, toughen up, grin and bear it ! Yes, it wouldn't have central heating in those days, but they had blazing coal fires in every room in the house, upstairs included.
  • Sounds very much like the issue we had with our old house. The previous owner told us on the 1st day that the fan may need some WD40 every now and again to get it going which we did for 7 years. Even manually pushed it a few times.

We only replaced it when we put the house up for sale and guy on the same street, who we found on gas safe website, did it for a tenner (we sourced the part) Took him ages too as the threads in the screws were perished
