UKPC parking charge - disabled space violation

Options
Hello,
I've read the newbies thread and I am waiting for a vehicle keeper's notice to arrive, before taking further action. Meanwhile can I check the scenario described below is worth appealing - once things reach that stage.

My daughter could not find a space in a car park on a retail park (20 December the place was heaving with Christmas shoppers). Unwisely, she chose to use a disabled space as many of those were empty and she was making a quick purchase from Boots. She parked, ran into Boots, bought an item, all within "5 minutes" and returned to a UKPC windscreen "parking charge".

I know that inappropriate use of disabled spaces is much frowned upon (including by me), but in the circumstances, does anyone think there would be any point in starting by complaining to Boots about this hastily issued and stupidly priced (£100) invoice.

as you say , its frowned upon, but unless Boots is the landowner I doubt she will get any help from them , no

the landowner may help, but may decline to help given its inappropriate to do so as those spaces are provided by law (the EA2010) for protected people ONLY

so best to wait fopr the NTK and appeal it on the legal grounds from the newbies thread (as usual)

if she then wins the case, tell her to donate to a charity that helps disabled people
  • Thanks, Redx. I'll follow the newbie instructions - really I should just let my daughter pay the fine, for having used a space she should have avoided, but the charge is ridiculous and I don't like the idea of lining these rip-off merchant pockets one little bit.

Just remember she did not get a fine.

What would be a reasonable charge for abusing a parking space?

agreed, but those spaces are reserved for people like myself

therefore I would rather she wins and then pay say £10 to a disabled charity than £100 to ex-clampers who dont help the disabled people at all

I agree that you should do what Redx has suggested.

Nobody on this site wants anyone to pay anything to the PPC because of the utter contempt they have for all car park users, able bodied or otherwise.
Please do not let your daughter pay it.

Remember, do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving.

I am sure she has learned her lesson from all this hassle, but paying UKPC's made up invoice (not fine) that goes into their bosses new car and Spanish villa fund will not help one disabled person.
Follow the advice on here and show them up for the scammers thay are!;)

So why don't they bloody well use them then Midday Christmas Eve, Reading town centre 20 BB bays, only five in use, people like my goodself who fail to qualify for a BB have to park 200 yards further than we want to be, and limp into town. .
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Because those of us with such badges generally avoid town if there's a Y in the day... ?
  • I completely agree with RedX, those disabled bays should be reserved for people like me. Even if there are plenty of bays not being used, they still have to be free just incase we want to use them.

This is the law and I was part of campaigning for it to be so. I am tired of people thinking they can use them to just "pop into a shop" or "pop to the cashpoint".

I want to be able to "pop" into my space without all the hassle of having to wait or drive around looking for a space. It does hurt my feelings when I see other people using those spaces who don't need them, take my rights (which you are when you use my space) and you can take my disability too.

My post may not appear helpful but I do want to emphasise how disabled blue badge holders feel when such abuse occurs. I have read the comments by "The Deep" and although he may have a lot of rights, if he needs help applying for a badge, I am happy to help he can always PM Me. I helped my friend and she has got her badge now.

So, are you saying that your local hospital should keep a bed free in case you get sick? That the local Hotel keep a room vacant as you might want to stay the night.

Because of your incredible selfishness, people such as my good-self have to hobble an extra 200 yards to buy a new ferrules for our walking sticks.

Are you perhaps aware that some councils deliberately overprovide BB spaces to collect fines from tax payers desperate to park who, in extremis, park in BB bays.

I'll bet you are on HB as well.

take my rights (which you are when you use my space) and you can take my disability too.

Thanks, but I already have one of my own
