Moisturiser for baby's face

Options
Any recommendation what moisturiser can be used for a 2 yrs toddler with sensitive skin and eczema prone. Dr prescribed Dermo 500, but am looking for something for his face. Have used aveeno baby before and he seems to react to it. Thanks

My son is 29 now and mainly eczema free but he had awful skin as a baby, we used Unguentum Merck by the gallon I have just googled and it's still available. I also bathed him in Oilatum Emollient which made a wriggling baby very hard to handle..

I've always got a pot of epiderm here for when my two (especially DS) get sore skin.

And it looks like we made it once again

Pure potions skin salvation. It is the only thing which cleared up my daughters eczema. Can't rate this product enough. Can buy from amazon or the nappy lady (they do sometimes have offers on their own site but dispatch is really slow IMO).

We just used plain aqueous (sp?) cream from the docs- no scent etc, just completely plain.

Came in a massive pump action bottle, used it from top to toe on eczema skin.

Current recommendations are that aqueous cream should not be used as an emollient (moisturiser) as it is full of detergents and thins the skin. There have also been reports of some people having a bad reaction to it . GPs should not be prescribing it as a moisturiser, only as a cleanser. It definitely should not be used on the face.

@ loulou41, with your little one's history of sensitive skin and eczema, I'd be taking him back to your GP, especially as it's for his face

Two other suggestions: talk to your pharmacist and see if they have any samples. When you find something which suits, ask the GP to prescribe. What works for one won't work for everyone. I was always having E45 cream recommended for my lads, and they all reacted to it.

Fabulous stuff, entirely natural and, in my experience, highly effective on both me and my infant son. I bought a large jar from them on ebay, a little goes a long way so it is cost-effective. And its smell is so comforting!
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
  • Oilatum? You can get it on prescription.

Another vote for Pure Potions, I used it on DS's excema when he was a baby and myself when I get the odd patch. I gave some to my 17yr old nephew who had suffered since childhood, and it cleared it up for the first time ever for him. Strongly recommend. It's a natural product too, and good to put on a baby's cheeks in this cold weather when out and about.
  • have you tried coconut oil
