PCs don't get malware by magic, you need to visit pr0n sites and/or be fooled into downloading malware apps for 'free' streaming football and the like.

For 99% of peeps, Microsoft Security Essentials will be fine. Norton, McAfee and the like are often more trouble than they are worth so run the Windows decr*pifier to remove the 30-day versions of the s/w that comes with a new PC.

Add the Easylist tracking protection to IE to limit adverts - http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Browser/TrackingProtectionLists/ and click on 'Add TPL' for Easy List

    I would recommend removing Norton.

You shouldn't try and run two anti virus programmes on the same machine.

Have you used the malwarebytes link again?

What does the bit in bold mean?

The malware popped up with one thing that it had blocked but no mention of norton.

Now the flaming media player keeps stopping so he can't watch clips of his grandchildren. I presume it's already installed on the pc is it ? Could there be something blocking it and stopping it from working Thanks
