Can I leave BT if still have active line rental saver

I am wanting to leave BT and move my my phone and Broadband to Plusnet. However I have paid for a years line rental saver which is valid for another six months. I understand line rental saver is non refundable.

With the deals that plusnet currently have it would save me nearly £200 on the yearly BT cost, so it is well worth me losing the six months line rental saver that I have left. I know if I threaten to leave BT will offer me a better deal but it still won't come anywhere near plusnet deal.

My question therefore is does anyone know if I am allowed to leave BT and just forfeit my unused line rental saver. Has anyone done it?

Yes but as you say they won't refund it. I waited till the last month of linesaver

  • Thanks. My 12 month broadband contract is up for renewal in next few days, hence reason I want to change broadband provider now and write off remaining line rental saver, otherwise will have to commit to another year of BT. Really shouldn't have renewed line rental saver. Original broadband contract was 18 months and line rental savers only 12 hence my current quandary. A sneaky ploy by BT methinks.

Your BB contract is only coming to the end of its minimum term - it doesn't have to be renewed.

Why not simply continue with your BB as is for the next 6 months and then move?

Or keep BT line rental and take out just broadband .
Line rental advance is per twelve months .
Broadband contract depends upon the product sold re time for the provider to get costs back .

Keep BT line rental till expiry then take Plusnet line rental would be my way.
If you take Plusnet BB and later take Plusnet phone & line you can negotiate a better than standard deal.

After changing her mind gran has now renewed her 12 month advanced line rental saver with BT, also said over the phone she will take 12 month free privicy and caller id.
Just had a bill for next month and there is a charge for privicy and caller id , found out over the phone the privicy and caller id was not ordered , and had to be re ordered.
She now has seperate start dates 8 days apart.
    ie line rental 17th
    caller id and privicy 25th.
Hope it does not cause a problem if asking another provider to take over the line near the expire date, regarding notice.

Yes but their has been no advise to go down that route .
Advanced line Rental to this time next year . Free to move line at the end of that contract . Free to sign up with any Broadband only package .
