    Hopefully your current situation is not one that has been ongoing for a number of years.

    However apart from the problems with the bank account, do you have enough NI contributions to be able to claim your state pension?

    I dont see whats that got to do with his question. Even if he cant claim the full state pension, he will be able to claim other benefits to enable him to support himself so he still needs a bank or post office account.

    I'm not disputing that.

    However the point is still valid - you can only claim a state pension if you have enough NI contributions. As that was what was asked, it is relevant.

    But at the moment there is no lower limit for NI contributions for State Pension. There used to be and there will be again from 6/4/2016.

    I didn't know about this. Can you tell me what the lower limit might be? as I have only about 3 or 4 years NI contributions.

    Yes there are some really generous people about and especially so at this time of year. I'm pitched up at a farm for one week only and will be back on the streets after new years day and that's why I am trying to get the answers I need now.

    I bought more than a dozen turkey crowns at just £3 each to feed to my dogs lol

    Almost makes me wish I was a dog.

    Why? Are you fond of eating raw turkey?

    Being homeless I cannot afford to be too fussy. Most of the food I eat is raw.

    From 6th April 2016 you will need to have a minimum of 10 years NI contributions so you really need to claim before then. Pension credit should top up any claim you make, assuming you are not already claiming this?

    Have a look here;

    Thank you very much for this. It is most helpful. I shall have a good read aand see if I can get something printed out to remind me later. After the holidays I shall try and get someone to help me - maybe the citizens advice people. Thank you again and all the best for the coming new year.
