I do have a couple of little battery operated alarm clocks
that we keep working so we always do know what time
it is if it happens in the middle of the night,
loved the Chinese tonight thanks & had mini pancakes
with it as well:D

Reason I remember the power cuts so vividly ff is I got married on 5th November 1977 during a strike and hairdresser phoned me at tea time on the friday to tell me to come down Friday night he would stay there till I got there as electricity was going off on Saturday morning so he would not be able to do my hair. He even came to house Saturday morning to tidy it up.Remember other strikes as well but that one stands out. As for candles I keep two boxes in the cupboard just in case . Don't want to light my Yankee candles if light go out they are for making the house smell nice lol would be a waste in a power cut.0
