NICKI hi and welcome back, have you decided on your design for your christmas window this year yet? Good luck with DD shopping tomorrow :D i must take a look at the organised christmas sites, i think they start tomorrow dont they?

I haven't decided yet as I'm still thinking about my Halloween one (Which I've just had a brain wave over! :D) I'll probably use the same Merry Christmas sign in the middle, and I have lots of possibilities already printed out ready to use. :D

The plans started on the 30th August, but the Christmas countdown one doesn't start until 25th October ;)
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • I'm also going to make mini apple pies instead of mince pies, so they'll look the same but have apples in instead of mincemeat. Also, I went to a dinner party at a friends house in December and she made this pudding:

    http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/holiday-hot-cake-with-eggnog-cream-97

It was delicious and I thought it would be a great pudding to have instead of Christmas pudding. Although I didn't like the eggnog in the cream, I would just have cream or ice cream. :)

I like the look of that. I do love Nigella. I love her Girdlebuster pie, it is amazing! It has to be put in the freezer though as it has an ice cream filling, so I don't get to make it very often as our freezer is always full. Maybe that's a good thing because I think I would just live on girdlebuster pie if I had room in the freezer all the time, and then I would probably double my weight in a very short space of time!:D

Freespirit - it is a shame when things you spend so much time on goes to waste isn't it. Usually when I bake the things do get eaten but occasionally I end up having to throw things away and it does annoy me slightly. I think I will give biscuits a go, I want to get them right if I am going to give some as gifts at Christmas.

I do love a freebie, I just don't get enough of them :rotfl:

I haven't done anything towards Christmas really today, apart from transferring my monthly Christmas savings over to my savings account. The savings pot is looking good which I'm very pleased about. I think I've become so attached to it though I'm not going to want to spend the money & see the amount reduce so quickly! But it'll get built up again next year & at least I wont be putting everything on credit cards this Christmas :j

Mojo - it has made me laugh now imagining a huge Christmas tree being delivered to work. How are you going to get it home?? I used to have a slim one in my hallway but I have a unit in it's place now so for the past 2 years that tree has gone in the dining room. It's actually a black tree. When they first brought out black Christmas trees I was horrified, Christmas trees should be green! But then I saw it in a shop and it looked nice, so I bought a prelit one and I have purple, pink and silver decorations on that tree which goes with the colour scheme of my dining room & crockery :T

I have to buy a new main tree this year though so am on the lookout.
  • rolls eyes at tax credits stopping my first proper week of xmas pressie buying. apparently it will sort itself out but we shall see. The system saw dd2 was 16 but not that she was staying on at college apparently (child benefits system, which is meant to be the same one, managed to get it right lol)

So i didn't quite get the list i had planned to get this week, instead i grabbed some tsum tsums (weird looking disney plush things) for the girls stockings and dd1's malibu party pack came too.

It's a start anyway lol. Dh has asked for a new ring for xmas... something geeky, maybe batman.. not sure on budget yet i guess depends on how much i like it lol.. though the one he's seen and said he likes is over £800 and thats sooo not in the budget lol

oh and i got nice xmas bedding in b&m last year for about £7 each set. if thats any help

  • Hi all!

Well it's about the end of the hols so I'm ready to jump back in to the chrimbo thread!

Not much done here yet which is very very unlike me. However, Dh is all sorted as we only buy each other a couple of small gifts but Am all planned for him. Dd1 aged 8 is easier than I expected and dd2 aged 6 Is a bit more difficult. Oh well.

Savings pot needs a bit of cpr. I don't seem to have been so strict as last year. Will give it some attention this month.

2 jars of mincemeat here too need ideas for as I'm the only one who likes it.

Good news is that my workplace are shutting for whole of Xmas. So I finish on Xmas eve and not back til 5th Jan I think it is! Excellent news!

Anyway looking forward to contributing lots!

Chocolatebum I've ordered three personalised Christmas bedding sets from the Studio catalogue - they're £9.99 each. They haven't come yet so can't comment on quality but if they only get used for three or four weeks a year I'm sure they'll last a while lol.

    Congratulations MrsI, lovely news.

Well we managed to have our weekend away which was very nice (if a bit too short) although DH wasn't good this morning which I'm afraid really got to me and I had a bit of a meltdown. Feel better for it though. I think sometimes being the strong one that everyone relies on just becomes a bit too much and something has to give. Anyway, I picked up a bedding set from Asda today that I ordered for eldest DGD for her birthday this month and I've finished youngest DGDs birthday which is also this month. Just DH's birthday to go on 18th and I'm clear until the beginning of November!

Lovely to hear everyone's Christmas prep. We've decided that we'll host Christmas dinner again this year and then we all go over to my DS and BIL for the afternoon (their lounge is bigger than ours) and pressie opening. I'm really torn between hoping for an indian summer and wanting autumn to start in earnest so it really feels like Christmas is coming.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Haha!! I'm friends with the cleaner in one office who will hide them in her cupboard and in the office the concierge does the same. So no problems there. I hadn't given too much thought to getting them in my little car. I got a lake land drying thing in it by putting the seat down - just. I think the studio seven foot trees are the most reasonably priced as I never cadge any in the sales and I just love them being that bit taller. I don't have a theme more is more and Christmas vomits everywhere and I love it!!
  • Evening everyone, a Thumper day so not much else done, but i did sneak a cheeky hour on Organised Christmas today while he took his afternoon nap

MANDCO i have had a think and i cant think of anything for Back to the future dressing up outfit, mind you i really dont have any imagination :rotfl:yes i think the same they will do things in their own time there is no need getting uptight, poor DD2 thinks he is a bit slow but it is different for young first time mums they worry they arent doing anything right :o but i think he is just a boy and lazy, and your right its not worth tears its more important having a full tummy!

PRINCESSKITTY ooh they have some lovely slippers and socks on there, i dont have anyone to buy for in that category :o

MRSMONEYPENNY oh i bet the elf slippers are funny! What a shame about the cross stitch, at least you are further on now! Wasnt it Christmas Smooth or Smooth Christmas radio?

CHRISSY oh they are so cute i fancy the father christmas one myself!

NICKI oh yes haha i forgot you do a halloween one as well :D blimey yes i was on organised christmas and saw that it was the 30th of August i dont know why i had 1st September in my head??? Do you also follow the Rudolph Club one monthly from January? http://christmas.organizedhome.com/rudolph-club/january

MONEYMISSION ooh i have made the Girdlebuster Pie it was gorgeous :D i think it is my fault a lot of the time i do make too much, so now i tend to make a lot of stuff that freezes so its not all out at once

MSGIGGLEWICK oh how annoying i hope they sort it out quickly for you! Must look up Tsums Tsums :rotfl:

CROWDPLEASER hi and welcome back, here is a lovely recipe for using Mincemeat http://www.mostlyeating.com/christmas-flapjack

  • I think I've seen that Smooth Christmas channel on my TuneIn app, so it might possibly be that radio station you're looking for MrsMP.

The girdle buster pie is amazing! I want to get my Nigella Christmas book out now & make on. I think it may be a bit late now though & my freezer will need clearing out. Maybe if I make everybody eat things out of the freezer for the rest of this week I can make it on the weekend. Now there's a thought.

I have just remembered though that the Nigella christmas cookbook has biscuits in that I was going to try last year, so there's a biscuit recipe I can start with.

I've been watching a programme tonight on The Carpenters. My mum used to listen to them when I was young so I get quite nostalgic when I hear their songs. It's a very sad story really because she had such a lovely voice & her life ended so tragically. It makes me mad that her life was ruined by a comment about her weight in the media but the media are even worse now, too fat, too skinny, hair's too short, too long, clothes are dated! It's crazy how everything revolves around what people look like.

    Anyway, off my soapbox now!

I have added a few things to my list that I want to buy for Christmas. Whenever I think of something I try & write it down straight away otherwise I will forget.

I still need to get a throw for my sisters & also want to get them a book and some pyjamas. I need to keep an eye out for pyjamas & start scouring amazon for a good book. If anybody has any recommendations please let me know, I struggle buying books for people because I think reading is a very personal thing, everybody has their own favourite genres and styles of writing. I've always been the reader in my family so will read almost anything, but my sisters don't read as much.
