  • Freespirit & Kaya - We all seem to be going into full blown Christmas mode this week!

I seemed to waste most of last night watching Christmas related videos on you tube (and I may have had a Christmas playlist running in the back ground!)

I need something other than the house buying/selling saga to focus on!

Oh and Free your dd is sooo lucky, New York at Xmas is on my bucket list!

Linz - Hoping you get some joy with the health visitor, poor lil man, teething is bad enough, but if he is colicky as well, I really feel for you both x

Need to talk to Dh about how we are going to spend xmas day. I have a very "difficult" situation with our families. Both sets of our parents are divorced, mine remarried their new partners this year, but still refuse to be in the same room together. Mil and her partner also wont be in the same room as my fil.

My parents dont bother visiting us (not once this year) but expect me to travel 1-2 hours to see them, Mil is the same! So I am going to suggest we ask, no TELL parents we will visit them xmas eve instead this year, and then it can just be us at home Xmas day, with Fil joining us for dinner (which I really do not mind, he is on his own, and the only one of all our parents that we actually like spending time with lol).

Do I sound really harsh? Does anyone else have similar issues and any other suggestions for how to deal with them over the holidays? I have tried to distance myself from both parents this year, due to all the stress/upset they continue to cause, but I cant keep them away from dd's at Christmas... Can I?
It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.
  • Christmas Eve is also my favourite day because everything is done but the excitement is still there.

Evening everyone, i forgot to say the other day Christmas dinner is here this year,

What time do you want us all to come over? ;)

Not quite sure our plans for Christmas day yet. It will be only the second one without dad so we haven't really got a routine or new traditions set up.
Last year mum stayed at ours Christmas eve then went to my sister's for Christmas day lunch and we had Hubby's mum, dad and 2 younger sisters for Christmas day lunch.

Oh, I had a go at making those chocolate & tea light boxes. They would definitely fit other stuff in. Will try to remember to upload a photo later.

HI Xmas friends. I think my mse Xmas planning may have backfired! I bought 5 boxes of Thorntons chocolates for my relatives for Xmas and they've not arrived in the post. Nicely discounted and with cash back. But their best before date is the end of November! I'd eat them, but what should I do?? Thanks

Ooh that's harsh Sarahcuzz. Did it say they had short eat by dates when you ordered them? I think I'd get in touch with Thorntons if they didn't and say that you wouldn't have bought them if you'd known and see if you can get a full refund (including postage as it was their fault). Failing that if you bought on line you're covered by distance selling regs so could send them back anyway but you'll probably lose postage. Unfortunately in this house we'd probably just eat them lol! Welcome to the thread anyway.

Pink I don't think you're being harsh at all. The parent/adult child relationship is a two-way street, it's not always down to you to make the move and keep the peace. Have a lovely day with FIL, enjoy your own little family and sod the rest of them I say.

Ha ha HisMissus, love the 'what time do you want us to come over' comment.

Thanks for the Christmas Clock link Susie, I did have it saved on my favourites but appear to have had some sort of turn and deleted it! Have added it back now.

Kaya, I like Christmas day until about mid-afternoon then it's all downhill from there and by Boxing Day I'm ready to take the decs down and start planning for next year lol. It's definitely all about the anticipation for me, I think it always has been even when I was little.

Free, loving the idea of Christmas coloured M&Ms. I did the Christmas scratchcards last year - must remember to get them as soon as they come out or there'll be none left! I've just remembered that I bought some festive plastic cone bags last year so could put Christmas coloured sweets in them and put them in with the hot chocolate and tea/coffee sachets in the lovely mugs I've got put away. Now, who shall I give them to........?

I watched one of my favourite Christmas films a couple of weeks ago - Mrs Miracle 2, Miracle in Manhatten - I love it. How long can I hold out before I start on Love Actually and the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special lol. :rotfl:
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Evening everyone, i just couldnt wait haha i logged into my wish list on Amazon and the Walking Dead Monopoly had gone down in price so i just ordered it for DD2 OH christmas present :D it will be here tomorrow so i will get that wrapped up and my book updated.

KAYA haha i always call them flavours because they smell good enough to eat :D yes i cant wait to smell them they sound fab! Yes i enjoy the anticipation of it all more than the day as well, i do enjoy it and have a lovely time but its not as exciting and when you are cooking and seeing to people its quite a hard slog! Boxing Day is lovely and relaxing though. I cant believe that nurse it is unbelievable that they didnt know something as important as that!!! OMG that is exactly what i have done with Amazon, it has come up with 400 pages i am on page 149  Oh thankyou for the link to the christmas shop in Little Italy i will mention it to her, it looks fab! I used to decorate my tree with trinkets from all over our travels (american ones are the best) but when i split up with ex it just didnt feel nice seeing all our memories so i started afresh with just baubles, i have kept the others they are just packed away to see if the kids might want them one day

LINZ oh you sound shattered my lovely i hope the HV gives you a lot of help and advice on why little man is so unsettled, could you take the presents back or is it too late? It happened to me one year so on christmas morning we took all the kids presents to our hospital childrens ward as we were visiting our nan one year

CHRISSY oh wow lucky girl she must be so excited, how fabulous!

SUSIE ooh i am going to put that in my favourites thanks

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY oh they are very cute

PINKNFLUFFY yes she is it is her second time in New York but it will be OHs families first time, i was lucky enough to go in 2009 at christmas time and it was magical and wonderful, i absolutely loved it and will never forget it although i really regret not going on a horse and carriage ride in Central Park and not going to Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, (ex didnt want to do either ) you never know one day i might get back there :D I would say just do what you and the girls really really want to do and if it means seeing them on Christmas Eve then do it my lovely!

MONEYMISSION yes i agree i love christmas eve

HISMISSUS :rotfl::rotfl:that has given me a good giggle! Ooh would love to see a piccie, were they easy to do?

SARAHCUZZ oh no how annoying! i have bought stuff that is advertised for christmas but the flipping dates dont go up to it, i would get my money back and buy next time when the offer is on, Thorntons usually have quite a few offers throughout the year, welcome to our thread :)

PEPPAPIG yes you do have to be quick they sell out pretty quickly dont they, oh they would look lovely in cellophane cones, i love the Mrs Miracle films too :)

Peppapig, pinknfluffy, getthing there quickly, newthrift, moneymission2015, 3forholidays, freespirit, princess thank you for your kind words.

Gettingtherequickly, the poor family that is devestating :(

Moneymission, that winter survival kit sounds ace, would love to see a picture of it all when packaged :)

Peppa, would love to be notified of any free christmas books, as my new library is a bit thin on the ground on these!

Princess, I am feeling a lot better about the house. Thanks to our amazing in laws we are really going to get our dream house, one that we would never have been able to achieve/afford on our budget. We truly are blessed!

aliaslotte, welcome back! Your list is certainly impressive, very organised

Kaya, sorry your eyes have been playing up but how great that you've got it sorted! Silly nurse, rather worrying isn't it?

linz, I hope all goes well with health visitor

pinknfluffy, be firm my lovely. Family is important, but I learnt a long time ago that your own little made family is much more important then the extended one! Don't always put yourself out for others x

Oh dear Sarah, what a dillema! Well it depends on how you feel about giving gifts that are beyond their BBE. Personally I'd do it, as it's not a use by, but I'd probably remove them from the box (so they can't tell they are out of date) and package them in another way. Like this maybe?

Welcome back MrsI, so glad you had a great trip :)

In sadder news, my Nan passed away last night :( I managed to spend a good 6 hours with her and she literally waited until I had got home to take my medication, ate two bites of my dinner and the call came in. Apparently she waited until all those visiting were eating too and she went out to Frankie singing 'I did it my way' on CD, classic Nan!

Sorry to hear about your Nan Feisty, but I'm glad you got to spend time with her. I love that she was listening to a bit of Frankie : ) xxx

I will take a photo when the survival kit is all finished.

Kaya, I did the exact same thing last night. I went on amazon & just searched Christmas & have been adding things to my basket for now so I can see if any of the prices go down.

Peppa, I would love to find some free Christmas books too, although I know I have 2 on my kindle that I still haven't read from last years freebies.

Pinknfluffy, I need to broach the subject with my OH this year again. Ever since we've been together we have always visited both sets of parents every year on Xmas day & I hate it because I want to just stay home with the kids enjoying Xmas day. My husband likes visiting though so I need to convince him that it will be perfect staying home. So this year I am going to discuss alternative arrangements, either visiting everybody on Xmas eve or having them to ours.

Linz, I hope the HV appointment is successful.

Sarah, as the date is November I'd be inclined to just give the chocolates as gifts as you planned.

Feisty Condolences to you and your family.
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.
