Freespirit I'm still doing the competitions and currently have a total of 1,465 entries for August so far. :) The group challenge to do 1 million competitions will probably be completed by mid September. I've not had any more wins since the beauty set that I won in June. Fingers crossed for the big win! :D

linz Congratulations on the win. Always nice to win some money! :)

  • Well, having spent yesterday cleaning kitchen, cupboards, fridge etc, winter washing, well a quick wash so they are fresh for the winter, rest of the housework, I plan on relaxing today, will do the ironing & may empty a wardrobe, I nipped into Sainsbugs & managed to pick up a couple of quite big diffusers for £6 each. Will put them away for Christmas, I have had one that size in the bathroom for the last 4 mnths & it still has about 1/3 left, so will be great value gift.

Got a rellie's manager coming from Egypt this week, she is coming to London for a course & staying an extra couple of days with me so she can shop! Only problem is that I have a really busy weekend ahead of me, hopefully i will be able to work a schedule out for her that will allow me to take her to the airport when she is going back.
A smile costs little but creates much :)
  • Roll on Christmas, lets hope it's a good one!

    Hello all!

Long time, no post - sorry! But my mind is starting to plan for Christmas and I saw this today whilst passing some time at work. I'm definitely going to have a go at making some, although I might adapt a bit as I don't really know any candle lovers.

    (Hope the link works)

This is fab! I do love creating nice gift packaging! You could put some lipgloss tins in if people don't like candles, or mints, round tin eyeshadows etc.

Welcome chocolatebum! Lots of Christmas nuts here, so you will fit right in :)

Free, so sorry to hear your daughter is having childcare problems :( But how lovely to have extra thumper time!

Well we got the house keys on Friday. We were thoroughly expecting everywhere to need a deep clean as it was dirty at the viewings and planned to move our furniture in next weekend and spend this week cleaning and putting a lick of paint as needed.
Sadly it wasn't just dirty, it was filthy. I'm talking months/years of dirt and grime and a family that just didn't care for things. The kitchen that is only a few years old was coated in such a thick layer of grease and grime, handles had been pulled off, cabinets split and holes in the back of drawers etc.
Plus the previous tenants had a passion for no more nails which they used for everything, including all hooks and mirrors and even pin boards. Of course they left this all 'hanging' and the only way to remove it was with a hammer and chisel and even though we were careful it has taken huge chunks of plaster from the wall (great big slabs!).
I could have cried when I saw just how grim the bathroom was and despite having a cast iron stomach, couldn't bring myself to clean it until yesterday!
The father in law took one look at it and said we weren't leaving theirs until the kitchen and bathroom is replaced and the flooring replaced. They are absolute god sends as they are footing the bill too (kitchen is luckily tiny).
So I am over-joyed that we are fortunate enough to have amazing family, but saddened that our little home is still very far from being our proper residence.

Sorry for the rant lovelies, it has been a very emotional few days!

  • Good evening everyone. Apologies for having been mia for a while, but we were busy getting ready to move to our dream home.

We should have been moving tomorrow, but last Monday (the day before contracts were due to be exchanged) our vendors decided to pull out, having simply "changed their minds".

    Annoyed & gutted are understatements!

Anyway, onwards & upwards! Not wanting to risk loosing our buyers, we spent last week cramming in viewings. We have found another house we like, but it is slightly further out, and only a semi ,(had our heart set on detached), but our offer has been accepted & we are going back tomorrow for another look around before committing.

Good news is that this one is vacant/no chain, and considerably less than our mortgage offer we had for other house, so it will hopefully be straight forward & fairly quick.

I apologise for having not read back & caught up yet, I promise I will find the time to do so in next few days, but just wanted to touch base! Hope everyone is well, healthy, and enjoying the summer xx

How infuriating for you! I do wish you the best of luck and hope that all progresses soon.

I haven't been around much on this board as our house has been put on the market less than two weeks ago but things seem to be moving faster than I thought. Had a few offers now but we can't find anywhere we want to go. I am meant to be doing Christmas (14 of us by then), and don't know where it will be happening, here or in a new house by the seaside. I am so glad that I started saving my pound a day as at least the financial side of Christmas will be ok, even if I have to pay for everyone to eat in a restaurant!!

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY hope you had a relaxing day and got done what you wanted to get done, how lovely of you to put up your relations manager and help them out

SUSIERICHARDS hi come and join us

FEISTY oh yuck! my first house was like that omg the grease on the kitchen cupboards luckily it was a tiny one bedroom place so it took no time to thoroughly clean top to bottom, im afraid some people have no respect whatsoever of other peoples property even if they do live there, cant the housing association you rent half off sort it out? What lovely people your inlaws are and very generous, you will be in before you know it my lovely and it will be all clean and newly decorated

PINKNFLUFFY oh no you must have been heartbroken, what is wrong with people??? hope the move into the other house goes as smoothly as possible for you. I hope DD1 is doing well, have been thinking of you all

Freespirit There is normally about 25 people in the group each month.

Feisty How horrible for you! You don't expect everything to be pristine and brand new but to leave a property in such a state! I'm not surprised that the in-laws want to help you with the replacement of the kitchen, bathroom & flooring.

PinknFluffy How disappointing for you! Credit must be given to you for trying to keep the chain intact and I hope that things go ok with the purchase of the semi. :)

Whitesatin Hope that you manage to find somewhere soon. :)
