Psst! Read post #377 and you may catch the drift of my comment ;)

I take your point, however it only takes à newbie or jobsworth to do you.

As it happens, I have literally just driven past the same crossing and there were TWO cars parked happily waiting for their precious little ones to come out of the school on the zig zags. Mind you, one of the cars did have it's hazard lights on so that's ok then.

Absolutely but my point is (irrespective whether they are kids or not) Mattyprice's post is perfectly plausible to me.

Those kids you described were cycling in a lit up area so it they could see where they were cycling.

I've tried cycling along unlit areas before with no lights (not roads), and it's just not practical.

Your example had kids who probably aren't aware of their own mortality the same way adults are and i can't see it being children cycling along an unlit bit of road at night.

    Possible yes, likely no.

It was a semi-rural 'B' road with very few street lights meaning the lamp posts were quite a distance apart. Impossible to see them for a driver pulling out of a side road (as was in my case).

This is more appropriate when there are a small number of cyclists.

    ^ Where is this from?.
  • Looks like Frogger?

    The advice certainly fits.
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Looks like both situations are dangerous for an overtake. It a car comes around the corner, the car is going to be either partially or fully on the other side of the road in both examples.

example A may well be SAFER than B for both motorist and cyclists, but approaching a bend (parked cars? hedges? run-ins? tightening corner? ...) it's certainly NOT SAFE.

The only really safe thing to do is hang back in the safety position and overtake past the corner.

Group A takes longer to pass, if a car came around that bend the driver overtaking would most likely cut into the cyclists. That is NOT safe at all.
