You have to get a special offer on the oil. I got mine from Halfords last time for £10 but it's 12 at the moment. According to hotUKdeals Lidl had oil for £10 in October. Then you get filter from eurocarparts. The oil was API SJ spec which was recommended for my car.0

Order at Halfords by midnight tonight and you can get 4 litres of fully synthetic oil for a tad over a tenner.0

I have a 2000 Fiat Punto HGT which I have owned from new. It flew through it's last MOT with NO advisories. It still has it's original clutch!
A 14 year old car is not "very old" at all.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Your father-in-law is right. Get it MoT'd first and then if it passes, get the oil and filter changed and maybe have someone reliable to check the brake wear; NOT a quick/fast-fit place.0

Be warned. Dirty oil and filter can lead to a failure of the emission tests. Clean oil equals cleaner emissions."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

You don't actually believe that do you?0 -

If you don't know that the condition of the oil can affect the emissions, then you evidently don't know much about internal combustion engines.
One only needs to Google 'Dirty oil affects emissions' and read some of the 909,000 results to confirm the fact."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
