You never know the priorities. Fungi are dangerous and health hazard. They grow dependently on those things like moss and mould. Asthma, skin dieseases, allegic diseases and diabetes are shooting high. That was not the case in the old traditional life. The fungi infections are too difficult to treat specially in babies (premature babies in particular).

It's best not to share you ignorance online. I've already said moulds are fungi. I've no idea why diabetes comes into it. There are hundreds of thousands of species of fungi. They fill many niches, but as one of the main decomposers on the planet, they're essential for nutrient cycling. Many species also exist in a symbiotic relationship with the roots of plants, improving their growth.

You're beginning to sound absurd. Your start talking about fungi on roofs (which was actually algae) and are now going off on a tangent on how this kills babies. It's obvious your knowledge of biology is poor. What I'm trying to say is, when you're in a hole.......

    Sir
My original thread was about "housing issue" and its related matters. It turned into biology somehow. The subject of my thread was made as simple as it could be. It was an approach in a simple way. However I certainly know more and much more about fungi and babies and related issue because this is my speciality. You put me in a position to say so. We all can be ignorant as we discover new things everyday. But my ignorance can never be as worse as yours.

Simple people use the word "bugs" for everything related to infection. People use "stomach" for every problem in the whole gut. We are in a simple forum that is created for housing related matters and money saving. So when I come to benefit from the great forum, I must use the simple common words. It was not my intention to lecture anyone about fungi and its serious relevant diseases.

Fret not. Perfectly normal and harmless. It's moss growing on the dirt or organic matter which sticks to tiles and, to a lesser extent, slates.... So ... Green is good. Trying to remove it would probably damage the tiles...

    Wow! what a thread!

Having been in the unusual position of being first to reply (my post #2, quoted above) I thought that there would be little more to say on this fairly innocuous topic...

I clearly could not be more wrong!

But Evergreen; just take comfort in the fact that you have given so much innocent pleasure to so many people. The amazing succession of carping posts above simply signal to me, that with the possible exception the stalwart GM (whose knowledge and patient efficiency never fails to amaze me), most of us just post here as idle pastime; moi included.

May your roof ever flourish! After all, remember that every little bit of moss (algae, fungus, mould, mildew, canker... or whatever takes your fancy by way of taxonomic, linnean or other classification of evergreen gungy stuff) helps add to the world's oxygen levels. So if you do buy a UK home with a default dirty roof, you'll be doing your bit to offset the destruction of the rain forest!

    Happy Christmas all

We have it growing on our roof on the side with the least sun. The blackbirds we have living around us love to pick it off the roof making a right mess of my path but I think they us it for nesting material so I leave it be.

    Thanks Alex

Unfortunately, the "innocuous topic" invited and encouraged those who hold hidden agenda that is irrelevant to housing, renting or money saving. If we say things directly and upfront this way will make life easier for all. Since Adam and Eve people have been moving across lands and borders. During that "move" process, of course one would come across bad apples and good ones. As there is illegal immigration there is legitimate one. My profession and job title is not "watching the borders".
Any house bought or sold is adding to the British economy regardless of the origin of the seller or buyer.....local, naturalized or foreign...it does not really matter.

By using the word "agenda ..." as a singular noun in your post above you could be opening up a whole new can of worms!

    As 'evry fule kno'... http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/agenda#Usage_notes
    - " the word agenda is the Latin plural of agendum, but in English the word agenda is usually taken as a singular, and item on the agenda used for individual things in the list."

So now we gonna open up a whole new pedants' corner by peole who might think you should have said "agenda that are"...? (Although I'm with you).

    Peace and love

I am aware of the "agenda, agendae, agendum" debate. Sigular or non singular, my message was clear. Those kind of agenda ARE not healthy. Happy?

Peace and love, to you, your family and everyone here.

I thought the OP sounded a bit down on the whole house hunting experience, as shown by this interest in minor roof discolouration.

Most people know there are far more important things to focus on when purchasing a house. If it is of specific concern, then it's easily Googled.

It's like saying that the gear knobs on certain cars they've seen for sale are far too dull, or slippery. I'll leave others to imagine what kind of response a thread like that would receive in Motoring!

So, I wondered if the OP, perhaps fresh here from a less dank and dreary environment, might be suffering from SAD. After all, it affects many Brits, though not me, as I live and work in a place with big skies.

There you are: my hidden agenda. :)
