I have banked with First Direct for years and they are the best IMO.
There technical help is second to none, access via internet is the fastest, queries sorted immediately by friendly staff.
I would not change, I have nothing but praise for them.
Hear hear! They are the first bank who are very aware that I am profoundly Deaf.
There was a problem with a transaction and they got it sorted within 3 hours which impressed me!You will only fail to learn if you do not learn from failing.

I have NEVER in 20 years had occasion to pay CASH into my account
Anything less than £200 i spend
I transfer money directly where poss
If i get a cheque I just shove it in an envelope and write my account number on the back
I dont even fill out a paying in slip and it seems to hit my account in about 3 days
So Im not sure First Direct even acknowledge like proper CASH MONEY still exists evenWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
Who is Crosby?
I agree they are pretty naff though.
I also read that they pay their staff in Leeds more for the identical job as Hamilton. No interest on their current account but they offer of a 5% regular saver if you open the current account. (Read all the small print if you got a couple of days to spare). You'll get a carrier bag FULL of printed blurb that you'll never get to read - so you won't understand it....Paying-in at the Post Office or their awful branches and you'll have to complete a paying-in slip by hand - very nineteen sixties style (maybe they have better arrangements if you're a major drugs dealer...but I ain't). They got plenty of expensive phone numbers for you to phone, hang-on, push buttons and generate income for them.
Don't believe what they tell you on the phone; I work nights and asked if they had ATM's I could pay cash into at night (like Santander, TSB, Lloyds etc. Despite their assurance, they DON'T.

I think I read somewhere that it actually leads to fewer errors as it creates an audit trail. I imagine FD will give you a pre-printed pay-in book on request but at many HSBC branches you can now pay in with at machines which count your money there and then - no pay-in slip required.

I've never had to use a slip to pay in money at the PO.
Been very pleased since joining them 2 years ago! no issues no worries0 -
Incorrect. There is no push button option. You are connected straight to an adviser. 9 times out of 10 this is without queuing and within 10 seconds.
10 times out of 10 if you use the international number on the back of your card. I always used this from my mobile when they had an 0845 number, because it's a standard UK geographical number which is included in my plan.0 -
Have banked with Nat west for 47 years with only a couple of probs and sorted quickly, I have Halifax and Santander accounts also without any probs...why do so many peeps get probs with their banks ?

Don't believe OP has ever banked with FD otherwise they would have known that you only need to phone one number, no push button options, no branches, and you can pay cash or cheques in at any HSBC branch or Post Office.0

Most difficulties stem from financial mismanagement by the customer. Or misunderstanding of how their account works.
There's little doubt that target / bonus driven selling left some customers with unsuitable products.
Some problems come from poorly trained frontline staff failing to follow procedures when non-standard transactions take place. These situations can often become difficult to unwind leading to further dissatisfaction.
The vast majority of customers never complain about their bank. Probably because they don't need to.0 -

I choose to pay in to Halifax or Santander, then transfer the money to First Direct if that's where it's going, rather than pay in at HSBC.
But otherwise I can't fault the account or the bank.
You definitely don't need a card or pay in slip in most of the London branches, you can simply input account details into the machine and deposit is done.0
