Had some good news today

  • Hi, yes what great news, i am so glad the offer was more than the two raised beds. It imo would have been a shame to only do the two beds. Happy summer days for your all now.

I didn't want to ask for too much, and as it was only two beds that were really needed, I thought that it would mean the charity could help more people. Having said that, I'm delighted that they have offered so much more, as it will make a bigger difference to my son and to our family. The additional work includes sensory equipment, a lawned area, and a large picnic table with a waterplay shallow rigid pool thingummy (my lad loves tipping water from one container to another, measuring and sieving it, not to mention bubbles!).

I know that we're very lucky, and that the charity can only help a limited number of people. There will be some that have been turned down, and I do feel sorry that has to happen.

Hi, thats all sounds wonderful, i see what you have said about helping more people but it may cost them more to do smaller jobs than one larger job

Good point, one I hadn't thought about. I know the work is done by volunteers and one staff member, but presumably there are costs involved such as travel expenses and possibly hotel costs (the charity is about three hours drive from my home, and the staff member might stay overnight locally).

In the midst of swapping stupidly expensive presents and getting plastered on various stupid cocktails this brings home what life is all about. My heart goes out to you and your family, this is truly a better Xmas present than any one single person could give.

Thank you Parva. It will make a big difference to my son, and looking to the future, will give him the opportunity to develop his interest in gardening, as well as him having something rewarding to do. Adult services, like so many others, are experiencing cuts, and from what I have seen locally, I'm not very impressed. Myself and my other two children have been discussing my son's future needs for a while now, and one thing that we all agree is that we need to make some plans ourselves, and not rely on what is currently available. The improved garden and the raised beds are part of our plans for my son's future.
