  • Don't know why the dealer didnt just give you the V5 and let you sort it out yourself at the PO.

Just hope that the dealer hasnt added themselves on as an extra owner..
  • I thought that when you sold a car, the buyer (i.e. me) only got the V5C/2 New Keeper Supplement, and the seller (i.e. the dealer) kept the remaining parts of the V5 and then sent it off to DVLA? I don't think the dealer has done anything wrong here (but I might be wrong, I'm by no means experienced in this field!).
  • Generally yes, that's what happens. but when it's a tax class change its normally different. The seller would send the whole doc off to change tax class or the buyeer could do it in the PO.
  • I just got back from the Post Office. The guy initially scanned my photocopy of the V5C/2, but then wasn't sure how to proceed on his system. I rang the DVLA and she said I needed to fill out a V62 form then return to the Post Office, but that I would also need my original V5C/2 as that needs to be sent off to the DVLA along with my V62 form. Will try again tomorrow.
  • Well, I just got back from the Post Office. I think it worked but I'm not entirely sure they followed the correct procedure, kinda felt like they were just pressing 'Yes' to everything on their screen just so they could get rid of me. I heard one of the staff say "if he wants us to take his V5C/2 then we'll take it" :s

In any case I've paid my £110 and have a receipt to prove it, so hopefully that should be enough to keep me from getting fined or imprisoned!
