Scrabble for Windows 7

My Mum has played Scrabble on her ancient PC for years and it has now given up the ghost. She wants to keep playing on her Windows 7 laptop- against the computer, not with other users. I can't find a version to do this anywhere without paying a monthly fee or being bombarded by adverts. She is happy to pay a one off fee (think we did that before) but none of the DVD's on Amazon etc seem to work with Windows 7. Any help greatly appreciated. She has an I-pad too if there was a version for that (can only find the free one with loads of adverts)

I would've thought that the iPad one would be suitable, adverts or not. I'm not sure if there's an ad-free one; I have Scrabble on my iPad, but I don't play it so often so I don't remember.

Thank you for your interest in SCRABBLE. Unfortunately, SCRABBLE is only available to residents of the US, Canada, or their respective territories.

Pogo has digital rights to SCRABBLE in the US and Canada only through a license from Hasbro, who owns the brand in these markets.

Another company, who does not work with EA or Pogo, controls the rights to the brand outside the US and Canada. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

No obvious reason why the old Scrabble game you own can't be installed and run on Win 7 (or 8 even). The OS may not be listed as it wasn't invented but it may work OK?

    Have you tried?

I've run Scrabble Interactive 2007 Edition on this Win 7 laptop OK.

I have the UBI Soft interactive 2003 edition of Scrabble(a CD-Rom), which is by far and away the best version I have ever seen.

Sadly it will only play on Win XP.

Over the years I have seen load of posts on MSE and elsewhere bemoaning the fact that it is not possible to buy anything to play on Win 7.

So if you have something that does play on Win 7 can you please supply details.

    Hi,

It will work on Windows 7, just needs a bit of fiddling.

If you look at this post :

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/scrabble2003-will-not-load-on-windows-7/50964d57-7ca4-4eab-b45a-e8ce6498706f

at the bottom there are instructions on how it works.

"I had a similar problem with Windows 7. The way I made everything work was to open the CD rom root folder and right click on setup.exe to access compatibility mode. I selected Windows XP SP3 and Scrabble 2003 installed without a hitch. I am playing the game without problem."

Give it a go and let us know if it works.

    Pete
