Dishonest claims by Tesco on Fuel prices

When ASDA reduces it's fuel price it does it at all it's outlets at the same time. However, when it makes an announcement of a decrease in cost, Tesco is reported in the press that it is matching the reduction. However what Tesco do not mention is that they do not reduce the price at all it's outlets, but only at ones where there is local competition. So their claims are totally dishonest The cost of petrol at Tescos Burgess Hill, in West Sussex is currently £1.15.9 pl while ASDA 6 miles away it is £1.10.7 pl. It is small wonder to me that Tesco are losing market share. Please point this anomaly out in your main newsletter

I don't get what you are moaning about? A car will do around 10km/l so it will cost you more to drive the distance to make the saving (unless it was along your journey, even so.....at a full tank there is less than £3 saving.
6 miles isn't local, near me there is a Tesco and a BP across the road, BP is always more pricey than the tesco, but they have been going for years.
At present super at tesco is 118.9 where as the BP across the road is 130.9, Tesco say the super is 5p/l more than regular so it is fair to guess that regular is 113.9p/l , asda less than 3 miles away is 110.7, where as the nearby shell is 113.9/l for regular and 122.9 for super.0 -
It's not "totally dishonest", they're telling the truth. If they said they were matching the price nationally, then they'd be dishonest.
Try reporting them to the Advertising Standards Authority if you have that much of an issue with it.

Then dont use them if you dont want to.
Personally, i generally use Tesco in conjunction with the money off per litre scheme.
I've 14p per litre off my next fill from Tescos.0 -
In the Olden Days Tesco used to have a sign that meant:
If you can find a garage selling petrol cheaper than us within 3 miles, tell us and we will buy it and either close it & build houses or stick our name on it and raise the prices.
And they did......I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science

OP - you may be libelling Tesco in the title of your post.
As said previously you should report it to the ASA if you are confident that it breaches their rules.
Is your example academic anyway? By my calculations the price of driving to the cheaper petrol station is more than the cost of the petrol saved.

I beg to differ. The Shell garage was always 1 or 2p per litre cheaper than our local Tesco and only 2 miles away by road. When I mentioned it to the Manageress at Tesco she said: "Yes, but we measure it as the crow flies..."
Err.. that would be even closer! I gave up after speaking to Miss Brain of Britain. The man without a signature.0 -
But is it still a shell garage now?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If he changed the title to "Dishonest claims on Tesco on financial reports" there would be no libel.0 -
Although no one can say Tesco have not been entirely truthful here.

It wasn't the cheapest.
I could have bought another brand down the road at 98p and of course that wasn't Tesco!0
