All of those problems will happen with *any* diesel car, particularly ones that are used mostly for short journeys and rarely see a motorway.
The reason so many Focuses are on eBay is because lots of them have been sold; it's been the second or third best-selling car in the UK every year since 2010 and possibly earlier. Residuals are rubbish too (partly as a result of volumes), so they're not cost-effective to repair. Both of those mean that a lot end up being broken down.

The "Ford" 1.6 TDI is a notoriously bad engine. Its built by Peugeot Citroen and used in their cars as well as Fords and Volvos.

Its a horrible engine. Prone to very significant failures and hated in the motor trade.

We'd one we bought in to resell with an engine management light on and down on power. We spent nigh on £3,000 on it in the next three months getting it going right to sell and then with issues under warranty for the buyer.

That was only one of several PSA 1.6HDI major problems we had - i would say it was the most prolific engine for major faults that i dealt with in motor trading, to the point where we would no longer underwrite them or take them as trade ins.

My brother has the 1.8tdci kkda engine what are your thoughts on that one, its seems they are a lot better that the 1.6tdci engines, i agree the 1.6tdci is absolutely crap hence the my initial post,

My poor mate has one and its given him nothing but major problems first all ford injector's had to be refurbished, then the fuel pump was grinding itself sending bits of metal down the fuel lines once again blocking the injectors

So had to get a new fuel pump, new injectors, fuel tank had to be taken off and fully clean of and metal shavings that were sitting at the bottom from what he told me he said fuel pump could have been saved if owners before had used good quality fuel not the cheap stuff and supermarkets

he only had the a month
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

I personally havent had any significant problems with the 1.8. If i was buying a diesel Ford, its the engine i'd be looking for though.

Personally, unless i was doing big miles, i'd be sticking with a petrol variant.

Talked my sister out of a diesel Focus and into a 2010 Honda Civic 1.8 petrol instead which suits her needs far better.
