loss of signal

Options
I am always experiencing a loss of signal with my iphone 5 (EE) usually from my home address. I did phone the customer service and they sent a signal booster box though it has to be linked to the Wi-Fi. Its frustrating as I often get cut off during calls and always have to keep calling the person back to whom I am talking to, it also happens to my wife and there is poor signal for internet access.
Surely with these modern phones we shouldn't be experiencing these problems. As anyone else experienced this and if so how have EE helped you.

Regards,

Garcon.

Buildings affect radio signals, you can't defy the laws of nature and physics.

I'm taking my operator to court - see my thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5131965

Have a read through my posts to give you an idea of how you need to approach EE.

Can't reveal full details on here already, but as it goes - my mobile phone operator called me today to offer me an out-of-court settlement.

Yeah right. Since no network guarantees coverage hoping to enforce this as an unfair term just won't happen.

They can of course seek to find a resolution. But this won't include building a base station where you need one, changing networks offers a quicker and easier solution.

Show me some case studies to validate this statement?

note that you have a sig box. with this you should have uninterupted 3g service. What often causes issues here is the isp itself, ie poor speed, or noisy telphone lines(adsl)

A 'case study'? Get real! If you care to look up cases where coverage was the sole reason for seeking release from a binding contract, there were several - the earliest being in 1987 against TSCR (Trading as Cellnet) and the other I recall was in London against Mercury One2One - names from the past, but where it was established radio communications could never be guaranteed and a consumer was expected to realise it did not equate to a fixed line in either service or connection quality.

A look at any mobile service contract confirms that coverage is not guaranteed but each case is treated in its merits (eg removal of a pre-existing BTS leaving the customer in limbo where service previously was fine). Where it is the customer that relocates, it becomes a non issue as networks are not required to provide service.

You said in your previous post, "Since no network guarantees coverage hoping to enforce this as an unfair term just won't happen"
    - it's common practice to back up a statement (when it is conveyed as if it were a fact) by producing some evidence to support it.

Yes, and there are also clauses in these contracts that protect the consumer in the event of consistently bad service - some operators require 3 days of consecutive poor service, others require 7 days. In the event that the customer raises this issue with their operator, they would be entitled to a refund of their line-rental costs for the selected days.

Can you kindly point me to the section of the OPs post where he said that his poor network service had been as a result of moving address? Didn't read that myself.

garcon6 - there are several reasons why you are having problems with your phone -

1- as stated in other posts signals do not always appear where we want them to - walls are a problem and dips in the ground can cause weak signals if your house is in one of them. It is impossible for networks to map their coverage to that degree of accuracy.

2 - Not all networks get signals into houses very well as some like EE and Three use much higher frequencies (1800 and 2100Mhz) than O2 and Vodafone which use 900Mhz for voice contacts. The lower frequencies penetrate buildings better, which is why the 800Mhz band has been opened up for the new 4G services for data.

3 - Not all phones have sensitive tranceivers, some are less so and in amateur radio lingo are a bit "deaf", and price is no guarantee as I remember complaints about iPhones a few years ago when users who complained about calls dropping out were told by Apple that they were holding the phone "wrongly".
I thought at the time that was a cop out for poor design, but I don't know if that is the case with the iPhone that you have.

4 - If you have a good broadband connection the signal box that EE have sent you should cure the problem in your location and short of building a new mast near to you there is not much else that EE can do technically.

If a transmitter becomes overloaded does the signal strength drop? Do they drop calls when the transmitter is busy?

The transmitter near now gives a much weaker signal than it used to. There are several large companies around the transmitter and they had had a major recruitment drive over the past couple of years.
Its 2 or 3 times the original size. I was wondering if the extra number of handsets in such a small area could weak my signal?

Thats the only explanation i can think of for my reduced signal strength.
