issues with samsung S5 screen and CPW

i wonder if anyone else is having the same issues as me? i upgraded my phone in CPW in october this year for a samsung s5 16gb with a 16gb sd card inside. i really like the phone and up until the last 3-4 weeks its been fine but now every so often (maybe 5 or 6 times a day) when i go to wake up the phone the screen stays black and only the 2 touch buttons for 'back' and 'apps running' under the screen light up.
i did a bit of googling and found a similar issue with some users in the states. it only appears to affect the white models not the black ones strangely. the way round it is to gently squeeze the phone at the top right of the screen where the camera lens is and that usually brings the phone back to life. very annoying to have to keep doing this.
CPW are only offering to send the phone away but that means i'm without a handset 9for i don't know how long), and i really want to know if this is a widespread issue and what my rights are to get the phone swapped over for a new one (preferably black) that doesn't suffer from this issue. are others suffering this also?

Your rights for a replacement are zero.
CPW have to repair or replace (at their discretion, the replacement can be a refurbished phone, not necessarily new) within 'reasonable' time.
Nowadays it's a norm to have a spare handset.0 -
You can generally only get a new phone within the first month of ownership.
Call Samsung, they will send a special delivery envelope, repair and send it back to you special delivery all in the space of a few days.
As for the phone, either divert all your calls to your landline or buy a cheap PAYG mobile...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So would you suggest dealing with samsung direct rather than the retailer CPW?
Do u out have a contact number for samsung?
Many thanks for the suggestion.0 -
Your rights are with the vendor .
Samsungs warranty is a limited extra warranty .
Have you factory reset the phone to see if that clears the problem .0 -

I haven't reset the phone as I am reluctant to lose all my emais, contacts etc. The fact it come on when you squeeze the phone near the camera lens in the top right suggests to me it's more likely to be a hardware issue.0 -
First / second service centre job is usually a factory reset .
If its hardware you may well lose the lot anyway .
You only lose what you fail to backup .0 -
I would deal with Samsung, better repair job and also if cpw went bust just like phones 4u could lose the handset less hassle.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
