Adrisco I know how you feel. OHs car in the garage today - its not starting but the battery is ok. Hoping they can find out what is wrong and it doesn't cost too much to fix.0

Good morning, I hope you all enjoyed Easter if you had a break. I got a little bit done in the garden and have been getting load after load of washing done & onto the line. Still haven't bought laundry detergent, still using home made and saving small fortunes.
Grocery challenge doing ok, hammered down to about £6 per person per week average but want it reduced to £5.
DD due to have baby any day now. I get keys to Frugaldom home from home tomorrow, so I will moving over there for summer and DGDs will be able to stay anytime. Also have several of the Frugaldom challengers coming on camping meet-ups, which should be fun.
Keep on frugaling, folks. You know it's worth it.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi everyone,
Apologies for the lack of posts. I've been studying my wee heart out. Roll on Dec! Have just ordered a couple of Dave Ramsey (American money guru) books. Anyone heard of him? Any thoughts?0 -
Free lunch today
A dairy company were handing out free half a cheese sandwich in town to promote cheese. I'm guessing they'd been told they could go home once they'd dished out all the freebies as the woman gave me 3 packs.
Quite nice they were too0 -
Recently I have struggled to be frugal. Have to try and cut down spending even more. Have managed to resist some purchases though. Not much temp work at the moment. Am doing some training through voluntary work which might lead to casual work, fingers crossed that I pass the assessments. Still decluttering and gave 2 carrier bags of things to the cs. Struggling to fill up another bag by letting things go. Did go the c0-0p to get a treat 2 bags of 5 doughnuts for £1. Saw one bag with just 3 doughnuts with the price tag saying there were 5, took it to who I thought was a sales assistant, turned out to be the branch manager, mentioned it to him was going to speak to the bakery and said that he was going to give them to me for free. Mentioned it the cashier when I brought them.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130

I have never heard of him before but just had a wee look on Amazon. I like books like this as they help motivate me and keep me on track - which helps as OH has no interest whatsoever in money matters, other than spending it:eek:.
His ones look pretty good - I looked at The Total Money Makeover and The Total Money Makeover Planner and Financial Peace. Which ones did you buy? I may buy one at the end of the month if you feel they have been helpful.0 -

I personally really like Mr Money Mustache and he is not big on Dave Ramsey, here's his take on him here: http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2011/05/19/mr-money-mustache-vs-dave-ramsey/
I haven't read Dave Ramsey myself tho, and he might have lots of good things to say, so wouldn't not read him just because he has his critics. I recommend Mr Money Mustache's blog though.0 -
Allie23 I bought The Legacy Journey and Total Money Makeover. Friends of mine in the US completed his course and benefited a lot. I just fancied having a look. I did check him out on Wikipedia and not sure I agreed with all he promotes but I'm not sure how much of that is because it's geared towards the American economy of which I know very little.0

Lashing rain here, not sure where all the sunshine is but it'n here.
Buying books on how to save money and cut spending... now you can guess that it is something I have never, nor will I ever, do. I read the comparison link posted because I had heard of neither 'celebs' and for someone to state that they have NEVER used a budget is an outrageous joke. How else does anyone know how much of their money is their own to spend? I despair. But perhaps I'm just a completely different type of frugal living money saver who isn't a man out to make money from those who are trying their best not to spend & free themselves from debt. No offence, guys, but I just don't get it.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

On the subject of reading, saving money etc. I don't feel there has ever been a better book than Patrick Rivers 'Living Better On Less'. Its very old school, but it covers the thinking behind new ways of spending/saving/working... living. Its a brilliant place to start, its old but i feel it's relevance, like any truth, is timeless (libraries will get it for you, or maybe on ebay) and it is a UK book. Ditto any old John Seymour books.Remember when you judge someone, it does not define them ... You define yourself :j0
