I had a epic fail on the onion bhajis the other night Bombay potatoes a success though will have to trawl the internet for another recipe for bhajis having a reasonably frugal day however will need eggs as dd2 managed to drop the ones I had left on the floor
Can I recommend oven baked Indian snacks. I put the recipe on the grocery challenge on the os board. Its in the index. Easy to make with just onions and they turn out really nice. I even take them to work for lunch.

Well it wasn't a frugal weekend but all paid for due to my frugalling this month.

I do think doing a huge shop and making a few weeks worth of meals for the freezer does help curb my spending so I'm going to try that again this month (it's payday on Friday so my month lasts from one payday to the other :) )

moneyonmymindsam, veggie soup/stew can be quite a cheap meal and will last a few days in a fridge. You can always make a chunky soup, then blend some of it so you don't feel like you're eating the same meal over.

  • morning all,

haven't been around things have been a bit manic... with good and bad things..

we cancelled our sky tv completely, and it went off a few days ago... so we are adjusting to what channels we can watch now..

I am sure when we completely cancelled it before, there were more free channels????

didn't realise Dave wasn't one of the free channels, so we are having withdrawal symptems at the mo...lol...

so only got our phone line and broadband with them at mo...

cant wait to start sowing some veg seeds, I used to sow them early, but with late frosts etc, I was getting caught out, and he seedlings used to go leggy etc, so now I just start sowing n march/april, and they soon catch up...

they have given us potential snow for tomorrow night, so lets see if they are right this time lol..

Dave is one of the free channels CTC. We get it, and I just googled and it is listed on freeview. See http://www.freeview.co.uk/whats-on/channels/categories/entertainment/dave

If you can't get it perhaps it is because of your aerial set up? Or possibly it is different for Wales?

That web site tells you what other channels you can get as well.

CTC - If you've just cancelled Sky, I'm assuming you're using Freesat rather than Freeview? Dave is available on Freeview, but not Freesat. However, according to the DigitalSpy forums it appears there are more channels on Freesat than Freeview, so it's personal choice which is best. Some folks on there say they have both to get them all.

    Hi Guys,

I am really trying to be frugal with my food shopping and am pleased to say that with the help of old recipe posts on here that so far this week I have only spent the grand total of £25.75 this week and that is for 2 adults and 2 children plus the odd visit from my Mom. I have fed my mom twice this week. I have tonight's meal prepared already along with pudding. I actually spent that amount on Saturday(yes i know that was last week)so it has lasted a while. With better planning and preparation I could continue to make savings.
  • You can buy a usb dongle from China for about $15 (=£10), you plug it into any PC, install the software and watch all free digital TV channels in HD directly (not through the internet). Even a small piece of wire will do as antenna.

Very interesting, is that legal and do you know what it's called?

don't see why it wouldn't be legal as you're only getting the free channels - but you WILL need a TV licence as you'll be watching the shows as they're broadcast. I have no Sky, cable or working aerial, and no licence. So it wouldn't be legal for me to get one without I start paying out the £145/yr licence fee again.
