Why I posted about old teabag.. is that we can all learn life isn't about possessions..
over the years people get used to things, and assume they cant live without them.
I really wish 'ashes' would still post, as I am sure I could learn a lot from them.. Even though I am trying to be frugal as possible, I need to spend as well, to line up a potential hobby business, which can give us a small income to live off in the coming years, when we are too old to carry on, or we need to close our business .
We have been dabbling with trying to make our own small wind turbine , even if it could help power one of our animal sheds etc.. by using an old car alternator etc.. any ideas??Work to live= not live to work0 -

I'm in south Wales, I found somewhere in Cornwall which will deliver a 27-30 kg side of pork for £105 with free delivery. Slightly concerned about the miles it would have to travel, local would be more ideal.
I like old teabag's story, I'm sorry that he's gone. I used to know a tramp called Frank who was always full of stories, and he always used to say 'if I was 90 years younger...'
New year 2014 was when I took the frugal leap. Spending £5 on myself is now a real treat, where as before I didn't get that feeling even from spending hundreds. And spending a fiver on someone else feels even better. I'm so grateful for what I have, and don't find myself longing as much as I used to. My parents used to get a half lamb, half pig and quarter cow from the local butcher every year.Cheryl0

I think I will pop to the local butcher on Sat to ask him how much it would be. I will keep you all updated.LBM: NOVEMBER 2011 || debt free date:30/06/15 || The Fighting Debt Army: #442 || Frugal Living Challenge 2018 || January 2018 Grocery £1.22/£100 ||0

ask the butcher where the pork has come from, now depending on what part of south wales you are ( pm me if you like with that info)
we sell ours for £6 a kg and this just about covers the feeding cost. but we don't sell a lot, its mainly to family etc
I buy a whole lamb now and again, but when its not at a premium price ( new season spring lamb) again it prob works out more expensive than supermarket lamb, but at least I know it was local, killed local and not Halal, which a high percentage of lamb being sold is these days..
We got a leg of lamb for tea today, so I am tempted to brown it off and cook it in the slow cooker, I have never done a joint in there before..Work to live= not live to work0 -
COOLTRICKERCHICK you're near me! I'm about 30 mins west of Swansea.
It's sad that he's died, but lovely how everyone cares!
Also joints are amazing in the slow cooker, i just throw them in!
I'm still reading everyday and doing well, only spending what i need, I find it hard to find time to post a lot of the time.
I really love this challenge though, because youre all like me so thank u for your posts. I've learnt loads!Still here..... but working on that!0 -

they are going to do a minutes silence in castle gardens, and I know a lot of the shops in Swansea supposed to be doing a minutes silence too.
I think we can all learn from him, he would only except what he needed, apparently would never take money from people.. so not a greedy man in any shape or form. he would never take help, or accept food if he knew the person was being paid to do it, as I suppose to him it didn't come from the heart and it thought it wasn't genuine.
even though he was never in the limelight, he has had more publicity than if any local mp or public figure had died... and the main diff too, he hasn't had one bad word said against in, only respect.. tea total, never drunk.
His spirit will forever walk the streets of Swansea.

thanks,
was thinking of putting a couple of spuds and onions underneath, and a little bit of water, does this sound right??Work to live= not live to work0 -
I did lamb in slow cooker last week. Put stock cube in half pint of water, potatoes, carrots garlic and it was lovely
I just tend to search for slow cooker recipes and then only add on what I have I the cupboard.
One for pork last week had jam in it, but it tasted really good.0
