  • Don't forget peeps while out and about, picking up the YS stuff,

    I am also thinking about picking up more of the Lynx gift sets from Wilko's which are on 3 for 2, so they work out £2.50 a set for Christmas next year lol..as I think next year is going to be tighter than this year financially...

    ( THANK YOU to the person who mentioned this on the 2014 thread)

  • I'd love to join in. I'm currently reading through the 2014 challenge.

    Baby number 3 is coming next month, so we will be living on one full income, and then my statutory maternity pay for 39 weeks of the year.

    My goals for the year are:
    overpay the mortgage by £1,500.00;
    put as much money aside to do up the house.

    This is to be funded by spending no more than £5,000.00 on the following categories:
    all shopping;
    petrol;
    presents (not including Christmas);
    travel (buses, trains, etc);
    dining out /take aways;
    medical expenses;
    clothing and beauty;
    miscellaneous and emergencies.

    I've picked up some ideas already, and hope to pick up some more.

    I have been thinking why I want to keep up with a frugal lifestyle, like a lot of people I have some debt ( but not very much) and I must admit that this at first was the main reason, but the more I follow more frugal ways the happier I'm becoming, it's a great feeling not to have to keep up with others (when I don't to), not going out with people that I don't really want to (because it's expected) and just generally following the masses.

    I can't understand why people want to waste their hard earned money on 'things' anymore. I eat carefully, keep warm, clothe myself how I want to and pay my way, I think I'm finally getting there!!!!!

    I am debt free thank goodness but sometimes with my spending could easily slip back to my old ways. I want to start living a more simple life which to me means less spending. Even though I am in my early fifties, I am thinking of retirement. I currently have two PT jobs but within the next couple of years would like to give one up.

    Here's to more simple and frugal life.x

  • My financial 2015 starts today (payday) and I've got off to a well-meaning start.

    Budget for the month has been taken out in cash, divided into weeks and my bank card has been taken out of my wallet. Hopefully I won't have any spending to do until the weekend, because I don't intend to leave the house :j

    Merry Christmas Everybody :)

    Finally a Homeowner 04.10.13 :j

    Merry Christmas :)

    although frankly I am not keen I do hope you all have the kind of Christmas you are aiming for.

    I want to properly join this challenge this year. I NEED to buy a house and wasting my money on "stuff" is slowly driving me nuts. I have cut back loads over the years thanks to MSE but it is not enough.

    I seriously need to go hard core.

    I am pondering the budgets and money/limits but will be back after Christmas with a plan.

    I nearly wrote "detailed" but lets not get excited!

    I seriously need to go hard core.

    :beer: I think I qualify as hard core, so here's to extreme frugal living. I live it like it's a blood sport and I'm the prey, attempting to outrun consumerism and social convention. :rotfl:

    Merry Christmas to all and if you don't celebrate the occasion, at least try to take the time to reflect on life and all that, then treat yourself and those around you with extra kindness in whatever way you can afford.

    Good luck in 2015 (or whichever year you are at :T)
    I reserve the right not to spend.
    The less I spend, the more I can afford.
