Not feeling too frugal today. Thought I'd buy bread rather than make own because a) my home made bread goes stale quite quickly and b) it's too tempting to eat more than I should. I bought a nice loaf from bakers last week, thin sliced (so wasn't great for toasting) and thought I'd buy an unsliced one instead but they only had small loaves. Wish I'd gone for large thin sliced again as the smaller loaf cost £1.05 compared to £1.40 for a large! Will stick to large, thin sliced in future and get used to extra crispy toast.
  • hi all haven't been very frugal got into old habits of buying crap over Christmas but have kicked myself firmly up the bottom and today is a nsd and a meal plan day I have to reduce my out goings in 2015 its as simple as that im doing the grocery challenge as well and my aim is get back to basics and slowly clear the cc s im going to grow some veg this year and actually use stuff instead of wasting it the decorations are down and put away for next year at some point I will need a new tumble drier as mine is not drying the clothes properly so hoping late feb to get a new one

    Hi All,

I made corn beef and onion sandwiches today for work, but did send someone out to get 2 energy drinks and a bar of chocolate for me... the next 2 weeks are one of the busiest time of the year for us in work..

when I came home, instead of taking my car to the supermarket which is literly a stone throw away.. I walked.. and bought bread, squash, and the cheapest garlic bread ( it was 1p cheaper to have the fresh one rather than the cheapest frozen one)

so we are having the rest of the spag bal which had the yukky frozen chips and cheese on top with garlic bread..
will prob make cheese /pickle or onion sandwiches for tomorrow, and will use the rest of the corned beef tomorrow for tea, with beans and Jacket Potatoes..

I have noticed since the new year Asda have got very ltd selection of meat, no beef joints etc...

mmmmm Mum said earlier she'd been in Asda and they'd not have any vegetable oil - very odd!

This is a first for me as before would have either ate too much on first meal or thrown it away. Real eye opener :)

Had only my 2nd NSD of the year. Glad to see it as I was beginning to wonder if I would ever stop spending.

Think I may also have convinced DH to let DS list an agri machine, not used for 2 years on f-bk site and allow DS to buy a new farm tool with whatever funds are got, should be around £400. This is a major major major step for my DH who has to keep everything, but as DS says, it is not gone yet, do not hold my breath!

    Small steps etc.

Anyway, today declutter stuff taken to CS, and only the rag bag that DH HAD to be kept is still sat in kitchen. It will be gone on weds night when bin men come as I am already cross! We have a rag heap in workshop that steptoe would be proud of.

I am going to start on wardrobes next, but even I am scared of this, we have every suit his Dad had during his entire life,87 years and he has been dead over 15, so just a little to sort. If I am caught doing it there will be an almighty DH tantrum. So sneaky small steps for this one!

    Maria,

if you have vintage clothing, if they are in fairly good condition.. it might be worth seeing if someone will buy them, this is my type of job, textiles, vintage clothing etc...

  • Please can I join? I haven't quite worked out my budgets for the year yet as I usually work month by month so it's taking some working out!

Attempting to be frugal through food and not spending (another homemade freezer meal person here, although I don't have the biggest freezer to work with!). After a few years of being much more careful with money I am struggling to be creative, as I don't really have cupboard stores/things to sell/places to cut spending, so hopefully this thread can be my inspiration :) I know I'm careful with money, but I wouldn't say I'm frugal so hopefully I can move to the next level ;)

I am trying to review what I spend money on throughout the year and stock up on bulk deals. Thank you for the Card Factory tip - will definitely be stocking up on cards. Does anyone have any tips on how to buy shampoo cheaply? I really struggle to find a cheap shampoo that my hair likes and always end up buying the 3 for 10/12 deals which seem pretty pricey! Just to add to the hair dye conversation, I use henna which I would recommend a frugal as long as you're a fan of red hair :)
