Missing money

I opened a tracker fund and deposited using my bank account. The money instantly showed as pending from my bank and a few days later it went into the tracker which remains open, all sorted. However, the money has not left my bank and is no longer showing as pending.

I won't be "owning up" to this (and nor am I interested in the rights or wrongs of this) but is there a certain time after which the bank can't just debit the monmey without warning? I'll probably leave the cash there but I just wondered if somehow they realise in a week, a month, a year, whatever, could they just take the money?

Thanks very much,
GBB

    an interesting question garybarlowsbeard;)
i would imagine the funds will be debited soon, but, in theory, you could now move the money elsewhere, and i'm not sure what the implications of that would be.
are the funds definitely already cleared in your tracker fund, with a platform?

Did you make the payment to your tracker fund using your debit card?

Your fund manager will no doubt notice that they never received the money.

Apart from that, I am taken aback that anyone can think it would be ok to steal from their bank.

My guess is that at some point the target will realise the money isn't there and either (a) take the money then, or (b) revise its funds to show the money never arrived.
  • The funds are definitely with the tracker, all cleared. We'll see, I suspect they will go at some stage quite soon but who knows. I think it was debit card but can't remember 100% now.

Archi Bald, asides from being taken aback that you ignored my clear comment regarding the rights and wrongs I'm yet further taken aback that you would call this stealing, when in the eyes of the law it clearly isn't and YET further taken aback (it's a very taken aback day) that you care about the banks who, in a much more accurate use of the word stealing, have been stealing from the masses for years and this bank in particular already got given far more of my taxes than I am now "stealing" back.

I won't get bullied by you, and I won't lower my moral standards for you. Taking money that you know is not yours is called stealing.

Spend it if you want, just don't complain when you are charged with theft

    Theft Act 1968

(1)A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; and “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly.
  • Why are people obsessed on this board with answering the question/point they want to read, even if it's entirely irrelevant, as opposed to what has been asked? Weird. Some funny people out there.

As you only seem to be worried about the time frame involved, and strangely seem to have no concern that you could be charged with theft, I'll provide you with a more relevant answer.

It's either six years or six years from the discovery of the theft HTH

I am not laughing. The posts concerned raised valid points to consider alongside the question originally posed.
