Turning off mains water

Hi,
I'm going to be leaving my flat for two weeks over Christmas, and I was considering turning off the mains water before I leave. I have a water meter and would feel a bit paranoid about possible pipe bursts/leaks costing me lots of money. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?
Thanks

No, lots of people do so - especially if there is the risk of pipes freezing.0

We always turn the mains off when going away, even in summer.0
