  • I went to Tesco late in the evening on Thursday and got some reduced bread for my freezer. I also took £2 in change from my jar (stuff that didn't add up to full bank bags) and stood at the self service checkout feeding them all in! Wasn't going to lose some of it to the change machine, lol! :p
Welcome back! Definite MSE thinking with the loose change. I've never understood when I see people tipping it into the coin counter thingy, only to lose 15% - then go to the self checkout and stick a debit card in! If I have loose change, it always goes in the self checkouts (or to Poundland!).
Fed up of paying off someone else's mortgage so saving for a deposit for my own home :D

    As of 20/07/2015: £35000 / £35000 :T :T :j

  • Evening all! Hope you all had a pleasant day. I had dinner out with some good friend this evening - three courses of Mexican food for just £15.75, which was pretty good value for money.

Having had a chat with my housemate who manages our bills, he's moved across the £3500 of mine that was sitting in the house account for rent. I'll pay my rent monthly from now on - makes me feel like I'm managing my finances with a bit more control. I also paid my deposit for the flat (£965 - should have paid it in ages ago!) which hopefully I'll get the vast majority of back in August when I move on.

Pay day for me in about an hour and a half! Hooray! Hoping to move a reasonable about over into my savings and top them up a bit. I passed a branch of HSBC earlier but had totally forgotten to bring my cheque from Mazuma for my old phone! :o Aiming to get to pay that in at some point this week!

Hoping tomorrow will be a no-spend day, though I may have to pick up a small breakfast as I've got nothing in the house really. Lunch and dinner are both sorted though.

Long ramble from me... tired, so bed soon!

I've got two jars of pennies that should really count up and ship to a bank.

Jan ends for me on friday, so I've been evaluating my first attempt.

Had an up and down month, mentally and fiscally.

Spent more than normal buying a stock of cat fud/ litter. Bought a stash of fud that's in the freezer for later months. Found my little iPod to run with. Decided my taste in music has changed.

Saved £200 to the holiday fund. Standing order set up for it going forward. Need to set up a basic bank account as I keep getting caught out with a couple of my payments that are every 4 weeks rather than every month. I want to start transferring the money for those into a different account and then the money goes out the same as my other standing orders on the 1st - means any money left in my account is mine to spend.

I also want to try a no spend month again. I've a huge amount of frozen veg/carbs/meat in, there's very little reason why i'll have to spend more than about £20 or £30 in a month, but I always seem to spend more like £100. I managed before christmas to spend less on food, but still spent the £100 odd on other things - train tickets, books, clothes.

    We shall see.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
