UKPC - Fined at work, Should i pay?

Options
UKPC have recently taken control of my work car park. I was fined £60 yesterday (if i pay in 2 weeks) for "Not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space".

Long story short, the car park was full. I found a spot which did not obstruct other vehicles or exits but it was outside a marked bay.

1. Do i have the right to appeal?
2. As UKPC is a private company, should i simply ignore the warnings etc
3. Pay but pay less and say i consider X to be the true amount of damages for the loss they've suffered.

Dont think of it as an appeal, its more of a challenge.
Or to be more precise its an instruction, or an order to UKPC telling them that the charge is invalid and you will not be paying them.

And its not a fine either, see it as a begging letter like one of those charity letters where 5p in every £1 may go to a good cause except in this case there's no good cause.

As they have recently infested your car park theres a good chance that others will ticketed, and as its a works car park theres also a good chance that the same people will park there day in day out, and like you they will believe the tickets to be fines, and worry about the ability to stand up.
Get hold of some pepipoo flyers - use the big a4 ones in common areas around the workplace and use the smaller ones on peoples cars, even if they haven't been ticketed let them know.

And at a guess this is probably some self ticketing operation where someone at the workplace tickets vehicles, as opposed to a direct employee of the parking company, is this correct?

As above, read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES then appeal. In addition (but not instead of) complain like mad to your boss (and Union rep if you are in a trade union) and demand to know what idiot implemented this stupid antagonistic soul destroying moral ripping idea.

Tell all your colleagues to complain as well.

... and as already explained, it is not a fine. Do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving.

It was a direct employee of the parking company.

I have read the Newbie thread..... Is UKPC considered a small company? Which template is appropriate for this case?

I would also ask your manager for instructions on what to do if the car park is full.

  • As per: Newbie thread, I should wait for a notice to arrive thru the post. Is UKPC a member of the BPA?

It is always best to check the BPA members list on their website to ensure you have up to date information. I once got caught out because the PPC website said they were BPA members but they had jumped to the IPC and not updated their details, whereas the BPA website had been updated.

Subject to the car not being a company car and the person who instructed the PPCs not being the same person who would then get the NtK and then pay it and arrange for HR to get the money from you.
