How to tax a used car if I buy it on a Sunday?

Hi,
Now that the car tax rules have changed, I know that when buying a used car, you need to tax it immediately.
However, from what I've read when checking online, you need to do this in a post office.
This would be a problem for me, as we've found a car to buy but it's quite a way away, so will need a full day trip to go and pay and collect. So we need it taxed before we drive it home of course.
However we were wanting to pick it up on Sunday as that's the only day we're free. Surely there must be some way to still tax the vehicle?
If not, we can't buy the car
Many thanks.

Thanks for that link. When I googled I only found this link:
http://www.postoffice.co.uk/vehicle-tax/changes
Which says you must go into a post office. And various other links that corroborated that. So that's really helpful thank you :-)0 -
Probably because that's a Post Office link and they want the revenue from you for going in0

Don't assume you'll be able to tax it online, my son recently bought a car about 2 1/2 hrs away on a Friday evening and because it was sorn recently he wasn't able to tax it online as the dvla had put a block for 5 days on it ? So had to be done at a post office0

You check whether it's SORN'd (amongst other things) here...

From the DVLA website:
Buying a vehicle
From 1 October, when you buy a vehicle, the vehicle tax will no longer be transferred with the vehicle. You will need to get new vehicle tax before you can use the vehicle.
You can tax the vehicle using the New Keeper Supplement (V5C/2) part of the vehicle registration certificate (V5C) online or by using our automated phone service - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 0300 123 4321.
Alternatively, you may wish to visit a Post Office® branch.
DVLA are unable to check the vehicle insurance details for new keepers in Northern Ireland online or by phone. If you’re a Northern Ireland new keeper, you will need to tax at a Post Office® branch that deals with vehicle tax.
It is a legal requirement for all UK drivers to have motor insurance in place before using a vehicle on a public road.0
