I am sorry but NI is a region which reminds me of that spoilt teenager who won't accept reality. We cannot exist on our own. We have become used to being handed pocket money without working so hard. Now that mum and dad are struggling to make ends meet, we are stamping our feet and demanding that we get more pocket money anyway. We are either unwilling or unable to see or accept the reality of the situation.

I am fed up with it. Our politicians cannot get anything to happen and seem to feel that the UK tax payer should be worse off so that we don't have to be. Hand power back.
    Always overestimating...
  • It really does make you wonder why these idiots are even allowed to run this place.

    It's time for tough decisions!!

Listening to guy from CBI on the Radio this morning on way into work.. Spoke a lot of sense.

    Example..
Proposed cuts by the Department for Employment and Learning may mean 1,100 fewer university places from next year.

Why cut the number of places??? Rationalise things and as the man suggested, why not raise Student Fees to about £6000. Still a 1/3 less than what they would have to pay if they went to Uni in GB but yet university intake there is at a record high..
no need then to cut numbers of places which will have a detrimental effect on the workforce available to private sector investment which is what this place really needs.

    As stated before..
Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) pay rose by 3% in the last year.... , Give everyone a pay rise while HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of jobs are now at risk..... what Genius came up with that idea?? Considering NICS are paid about 15% more than their Private sector counterparts (Along with all the nice pensions contributions, flexible working, etc etc etc..) why not give them all a 10% pay cut and keep some of those who would be made redundant in work rather than having them join the Dole Queues !!!

WHY WILL OUR POLITICIANS NOT DO THEIR JOB !!!

NI assembly is little more than a jumped up town council, a place of bickering and in effectiveness, why expect anything more from the inept self publicising crowd we elected?

Because no one who implements the required cutbacks will ever be elected again. The only way the books will ever be balanced is if Whitehall imposes it. It's been said before - every ni politician is a socialist, determined to spend as much public money as possible.

  • Just had this in from my sons school
In Northern Ireland, only 61% of funding for education goes directly to schools as the Aggregated Schools Budget compared to 80% in the rest of the UK.

The Department of Education spends 39% of thebudget on overhead and admin and only 61% goes to schools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously - the public sector in NI needs culled.

    F3king UNBELIEVABLE !!.

I also know from working in a previous job that the way our schools are maintained etc is a bit of a joke.... bit like the NIHE.... lots of big contracts for the boys and lots of shoddy workmanship..
And from current job it can easily be seen there are a lot of people in public bodies who are doing jobs which they simply cannot do.... They are way out of their depth so what do they do... get "Consultants" in and pay them silly money to "advise" them......
In current job we have put some of our kit into Hospitals and Uni's here. it is clear to see at times what they are doing is WAY OTT for what is required... Usual response..... We have to use the Budget or we'll loose it and get less next year.... BRILLIANT use of public money !! No flexibility whatsoever!!

I'm not sure you could describe any of the Unionist parties as being socialist. They might get a little upset with that.

Having said that, it's an election year and any politician will say anything. Means nothing to nobody. Lies upon lies. Wait for the flag and the picture of politician to come through the letterbox. No such nonsense as words or manifestos (see above).

It used to be that it was the working class Unionist from East Belfast who was 'disenfranchised'. It seems now we're all (left and right footers) pretty well fed up to the teeth with this shower.

The only advantage that seems to have come from Stormont is that people don't shoot each other any more (on that 'daily slaughtering match' scale).

    The price of peace?

Back when I was wee, the official ira were avowed socialists - the stickies. Provisional ira were more akin to fascists. Now Sinn Fein have had some weird conversion and claim to be the socialist alternative. I heard Gerry on rte radio the other morning talking about the economy and he hadn't a clue. It seems as if he never was a member of the economy. It hasn't gone away, you know.
