My friend and I are going to torromolinos for 5 day's in September. I have never been before and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what we can do whilst there.;)
We wouldn't mind a day trip to the Rock of Gibralta but how expensive would that be. We will have to rely on coach.
We are staying at the Greigo Mar hotel and would like to know what the local bars are like. (not so fussed on night clubs) but we do like entertainment and a good laugh:beer:

Hi,
We have been there a few times. It has a reputation for being similar to Benidorm when in fact it is a fairly quiet place.
There are many bars there . A lot of bars are hidden away near the beach on the way to Benalmadina, when at the beach keep walking with the sea on your left and you will come to them .
Other bars are in the town centre up the hill from the beach.
For lively bars and clubs take a long walk or short taxi ride to Benalmadena resort up the coast. ( like blackpool)
From a money saving point of view we found that once inland a few hundred yards service was good and beer 1 euro a pint ,whilst on the beach it was up to 4 euros a pint . One night we went to a supermarket and bought vodka and cola, sat on the beach at sunset and got drunk, one of the best ( and cheapest ) nights out . Chinese restauraunts in torre did brilliant deals ( dont remember prices but dirt cheap and nice)
I have been to Gibraltor a few times by car but never by coach. I would imagine the coach fare wouldnt be much as its only 75 miles away . British money used there so take some.
In Gib duty free cigs were about £8 for 200, border control strict so dont smuggle. Trip to see monkeys well worth while.
Some say long queues at borders ( 2 hours plus) are a problem but personally Ive never had to wait long.
If theres anything else you need to know just post back.

I have been to Torremolinos at least 15 times. The Griego Mar is a good hotel. quite central to The " San Miguel "
This should let you print of street maps of Torremolinos.I went to Gibraltar in June this year and there were no queues to get in. I always book it in Exotic Tours which is right down the bottom of the San Miguel on the right hand side. 9 euro. you leave at 7.20 in the morning an back again for 6pm
a ltr bottle of bacardi was £7 Vodka £6
There is a lovely chinese just facing your hotel called the Grand Mundo....best in Torre - three course special is 6 euro . just beside that there is a good Karaoke Bar called Legends , run by the Owner Harriet lovely girl who is blind....anything else you want to know just ask

9 euro's is really good to go to Gibralta so I guess we will be going and it will be a fun day out.became debt free December 060 -
Meant to say thats only for the shopping Trip. Its about 15 euro if you want to go see the apes but check out that "exotic Tours" place. Its also the cheapest to get your money changed, good rate and no comission.
Also from your hotel if you head towards the San miguel at night you will find Tina's Bar and The Bailey and Hollie Fitzsimmons - all good craic.0 -
We would probably only go shopping anyway, but still 15 euro's is still good if we do decide to see the monkey's. I am writting all the names of the bars you are recommending so if you think of any more please feel free to post it:beer: :beer:became debt free December 060

When in Gibraltar if you are going for lunch. Try the Gibraltar Arms Pub on the main street facing Mothercare. It was gorgeous.fab menu and reasonably priced. there are tables outside and its lovely sitting in the sun relaxing.
You are very near the bus station from the Griego Mar and its only 1 euro 10c to get the bus to Benalmadena , the buses run really late or you could get a taxi back.( The taxi rank is also beside the bus station )The Marina there is lovely at night. There is a lovely restaurant Jacks ( a bit like TGI Fridays only nicer food. If you get a table inside that looks out over the marina, its lovely all lit up. Its buzzing too at night.0 -

Does anyone know what the weather will be like mid Sept. Will we need a cardigan for the night time?became debt free December 060

Weather should be lovely mid september, not too hot. Gibralter is around a two hour drive away. I used to live on the Coast ages ago and think I remember the Griego Mar, I think it was quite a nice hotel, but it was a while ago! There is a tuesday morning market in Fuengirola, the biggest on the Coast. You can get a bus there, but watch your wallets when you're there. Behind Benalmadena there is a small town called Arroyo de la Miel which had several nice restaurants and a small theme park called Tivoli World.
The beach area in Torremolinos is lovely and you have to walk up from the beach to get into the town. The best known street is the Calle San Miguel, which is completely pedestrianised. There are a few good shops there but watch out for the time share touts.
just found this website, it might help: http://www.andalucia.com/torremolinos/nightlife.htm
As said before, you can walk along the costal path to Banalmadena Costa through the old fishing area called Carihuela, there are some lovely restaurants and bars there. For more lively bars head for Plaza sol y mar (24 hour square) in Benalmadena Costa, or Fuengirola.
Pretty villages close by are Benalmadena Pueblo and Mijas.
By the way, Benalmadena is pronounced Ben-al-mad-in-a not Ben-al-mad-een-a
Hope you have a fab time0
