I am looking for a simple PAYG phone for an elderly relative it needs to have big buttons and be on O2.

The chances are that £10 would last her a few months so any recommendations for a sim?

(sorry along time since I have been on PAYG)

Best phones for the elderly are Doro, but they are not cheap and aren't 3g (except their smartphones):

506 and 508 are possibly the cheapest and can be bought for less than £30.

The cheapest PAYG for infrequent use are Three (requires 3g handset) and Delight Mobile (EE network). Both are 3p/min.

Giffgaff runs on the O2 network if that's what you mean and is reasonable cost plus would also work with the big button phones grumbler suggested.

  • Why does it have to be on o2?
Binatone M312 has big buttons and is £15 instore at Asda on Asda Mobile (8p/min)

I would disagree that Doro are the best. They are certainly one of the most well known. However, whilst the physical design looks big and clear, the operation is confusing in places.

For example, in one version of their software, scrolling through the contacts list causes the current contact to 'expand' to make the text bigger. This has the unfortunate effect of obscuring the adjacent contacts - which can confuse the user.

I would recommend a proper assessment of the challenges the older person has. For some an Android phone with a purpose designed interface (like Big Launcher) will prove much easier to use. Others may benefit from a basic Nokia, where all they have to remember is how to dial a number and what the green and red keys do. others will find a Doro perfect for them.

The Binatone is not locked to Asda and can be used on any network although it's only 2g so would not work on Three ...not that it matters as the OP wants it to be on O2 although people seem to be missing that point
