The prices quoted are obscene. Find a local independant with a good reputation; ask local Taxi Drivers etc. for recommendations.
Cam belts cost £15 or a full kit including new pulleys and tensioners and water pump is about £50. Labour should be about 2 hours.
I had a Mondeo with 270,000 + miles on the clock. Never changed brake fluid. Never had any brake problems.0 -

£50 seems extremely optimistic for a timing belt kit and water pump for a VW Golf.

Yeah, that's right. Only poor people try saving money.
Have you considered that people who save money are, quite to the contrary, far more likely to be able to afford nice things using their own money, whereas the poor hard done by soul 'buying' a new car on PCP every three years could quite conceivably not have two pennies to rub together.
How many threads do we see here from people with new-ish cars worth many thousands of pounds who can't afford to repair or service their vehicle. The money I've saved by not buying new means I won't have to worry if the gearbox falls off my 12 year old, 135K car, because I've got plenty in the bank, thanks.0 -
See loads of youngsters in brand new cars whilst I'm in an old green diesel Passat - but I own it, and am paying nearly a grand a month on a mortgage, an appreciating asset, as opposed to 100's a month on a car.
In 18 years of motoring it's never crossed my mind to get a new car, or a loan. Just save up and buy one.0 -

yeah they don't just wear though use they also degrade with age. Its an expensive bill if it does brake so not worth risking.
As for the two year thing, have you done any damage I would strongly suspect not but I would do more frequent oil changes for the same reasons as already stated.
Why these threads have to go massively off topic onto the buying new vs old, I don't know. Just remember if people don't buy new car there wont be old cars for others to buy.

The cambelt will be listed in the service manual when it should be changed, often says something like 50,000 miles or at 4 years intervals.
stick with what it says.
As for thrashed rep mobiles been better cars than low mileage cars, well let the experts decide, you find any dealer who will agree with you when he values each car and I will concede.
The rep car will have been redlined from cold, thrashed through gears, screwed within an inch of its life to motorway overtake.
I certainly know mine was in my younger years, not my car, it got screwed to the limit and crunched in every gear going and when it went back it was totally hammered.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
