As a matter of interest, can anyone tell me if you are buying goods like above and the retailer is offering say 24 months free credit does he gain from that; for example does he get commission from the credit company, OR is it just a way to encourage people to buy.

The reason I'm asking was I was wondering whether or not you can haggle more by taking the credit option, even though you do pay it off immediately, i.e. next day or following week, or will you always get a better deal with cash.

I have a double oven and I never use the little top non fan bit, it is too slow compared to the fan oven and also a bit too small as can only have 1 shelf in it. I am waiting for an extension to be built, and will have 2 full size side by side ovens built at waist level.

I have a Bosch double oven which, at the time I got it, was a Which? best buy. I am pleased with it but I now also have a halogen oven which I use a lot - but then there are only the two of us. Knowing what I know now, I feel I would have been better with single oven.

Regarding reviews placed by Which? members, you will find that when an item is given a best buy rating, it's very often the people who have bought that item and not been happy with it who place their reviews on the site. This, I am sure, is the reason why you get a skewed result. I have bought best buys several times that have been absolutely fine but other members have complained about various aspects that have not presented any problem whatsoever to me.

    Remember, you can't please everyone.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Many thanks for your replies to date. It is make your mind up time so once the sales start I’ll be checking some local stores that come highly recommended and are pretty keen on price. I’ll also be contacting the like of John Lewis and visiting my local Currys.

Here is what I’ve decided on.

    Neff U15M52N3GB double built-in oven
    Neff T40B30X2 induction hob
Panasonic NN-CT552W combination microwave, would have liked a built in one but the budget won't stretch that far.
I’m also in the market for a television like the Samsung UE40H6400 but I haven’t decided yet on make or brand

I'm hoping that if I buy all the above from one retailer I will be able to negociate a better discount. I'll be paying cash so hopefully that will also help reduce the price a bit.

A Happy Christmas to all at MoneySavingExpert

I've got that one on my shortlist too, along with this one

I can't seem to see a huge difference between the specs for such a big price difference

Yes I see what you mean.
Are you like myself planing to buy during the sales?

Two reasons I decided to opt for the Neff
1 I live in Northern Ireland and there is no John Lewis here. What happens if anything goes wrong

2 even though I've read some pretty poor reviews about the Neff on the Which website it is one of only three best buys that they've reviewed. They haven't looked at the JL offering and as someone was saying to me most people don't coment when something goes really well and only !!!!! when something happens.

What's JL after sales like? It might be worth contacting them in January and see what they can come up with if I opt for their oven. But I'd want to be sure of after sales service living here in NI

Have a happy and peaceful Christmas

    I'm disapointed  !!

I've spent the past two hours or so trying to find an online retailer where I could get a decent price for the three new kitchen items I'm after.

Which Online Guide Price pre Christmas for the whole lot was £1224. John Lewis and Currys were both clocking in at £1208.
