Any recommendations for a simple smart phone not preloaded with garbage?

I've looked at reviews, and get confused. Can readers recommend a simple, probably Android, smartphone which is
(a) good for making phonecalls, sending and receiving texts, doing gmail, looking at websites, and using BBC radio i-player, and
(b) does not come pre-loaded with huge and unremovable apps such as the totally annoying Facebook and the utterly mysterious (to me) google+ ?
Thanks in advance!
