...does such a thing still exist?

We've got some techie things to attach to gadgets in the house which are controlled (on/off) by a text to a sim card. Ideally want on which does not incur a monthly fee, just a fill up and use one. I know that they were around a few years ago but am struggling to find one now - can anyone advise please?

Think I may not have explained clearly what I wanted...a sim card with no monthly fee. Just plain use it and top up.

All PAYG SIM cards are just that, only the bundles if purchased expire after 30 days, the credit if not used for a bundle it will remain indefinitely provided a chargeable event is made usually within every six months but does vary by network, (GiffGaff also allows incoming calls to count but the calls must be a certain minimum time length).

This question gets asked nearly every week in the Mobiles section of the forum.
  • Three payg is pretty good. Rates are good for a payg and your credit doesn't expire. Give them a look.

    It's official...I'm a numpty!

Didn't realise that the SIM card doesn't need any credit as we are only going to send texts to it, it won't be doing any outgoing stuff. :o:o

Thanks to the guy in the EE shop in Glasgow who managed to not laugh at this little old lady! :o

But, don't forget that there must be a 'chargeable event' every X days (not sure what X is with EE) - I don't think that receiving a text counts .... does it??

Three say that their credit never expires.

One problem with PAYG SIM cards is that the providers will disable them if they haven't been used for a period of time (3-6 months).
