    Yes, because dominoes is based on players picking random dominoes without knowing what they are. Each player only knows what dominoes he holds as only he can see the marked side.

    With a replacement 4/4 domino, everyone would know which one it was in the pile and would also know if someone picked it up and that would affect the game. It would be a bit like playing poker with a marked Ace card.
