You talk about council tax support and housing costs. Why are you no longer receiving help? Is it because you are now receiving your state pension?

Have you checked that you are receiving all the help you are entitled to?

Put your details into the benefit calculator on https://www.entitledto to see.

I 'volunteered' for PIP in Nov 13 and eventually received a ruling in April 14
What age were you on the day that you began the process of transitioning from DLA to PIP?

The first posts states 65 in June 13. That is outside of the dates that they would have stayed on DLA.

You most certainly did jump the gun i'm afraid. You said that your DLA was an indefinite award and those awards are the last ones to be invited to apply for PIP. Which would probably have been sometime in 2017. Also because you were already claiming DLA and with your age you would have stayed as you were. Now because you jumped the gun you've got into this mess sadly. You've been refused PIP. When did you get the decision for PIP? If it was less than 1 month ago then you can ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration if it's longer then i'm sorry that's it there's nothing you can do. PIP is so much different to DLA. Only thing i can advise you to do is to apply again for Attendance Allowance but as i said this doesn't include the mobility part only the care part. Not the news you wanted to hear i know...
Hey Poppy. Seems that I was too eager then? I thought that I had it sussed and didn't want to have to wait. As you say my DLA was indefinite. What an idiot I am. Maybe it is a lesson in not trying to do the right thing but and instead screw the country out of what I could for as long as I could! It was in April 14 that they told me that PIP was not for me. I didn't appeal or anything as the DWP said that they would try and get me a similar benefit instead because of my age. I had and still don't have any real idea what the Attendance thing is. I never applied for it or filled in a form. The DWP came over in their letter that they were really trying to help me out and all wasn't lost. I think it is time to swallow my pride and go and see the CAB.

Looks to me like this was your mistake.

I guess having State pension helps a bit financially.
Hey Bryan. Yes it seems to be looking that way. I thought that I was doing the right thing. Not really, we were getting Pension Credit to top up our State Pensions. That all stopped when the DLA stopped.

Hey Lindy. The Council Tax Benefit and help with the mortgage interest all stopped when we lost the Pension Credit. The Pension Credit was stopped because the DLA was stopped. I got a letter from the Council telling us that as the Pension Credit had stopped we had to make arrangements to start paying the Council Tax again. The same with the mortgage. They were really nasty. We have had to use our credit cards to pay that since April 14.
I'll have a look at that link you gave this evening. But I can't see it making much of a difference as the Council Tax Benefit was awarded on the back of Pension Credit. We have never made a claim for the Council Tax Benefit, it was given to us automatically as was the help with the mortgage.

You really need to check if you are getting all that you are entitled to. DLA isn't counted as income for income based benefits so don't understand why the pension credit stopped.

Hey Torry. It had something to do with some additions called premiums. The DWP Pension Credit people tried to explain the reason to me when I rang them up. It had to do with both of us being disabled and getting DLA at the time. People can only get it if both are receiving DLA. As mine stopped so did the entire premium. Double dutch to me but they seemed convincing with their explanation.

If your income is over £226 you won't get pension credit. But if its under, any amount of pension credit normally entitles you to the mortgage and council tax payments.
