Solicitors final bill

I'm completing on Wednesday 17th, my solicitor is waiting on a "completion statement" from the vendors solicitor so that my final bill can be produced - my questions are:
Is this normal practice? (I don't understand how this would effect what I owe my solicitor?)
Is it normal to be a 'last minute' thing? (Obviously tomorrow is the last chance to get the completion statement and still allow time for me to make my payment all before completion day - worried!) Not to mention I've obviously got the removal firm booked and a delay would cost me dearly
Please advise if this sounds alarming? It's all seems a bit 'last minute' for my liking - thanks

If it were me I'd transfer the amount I know to be true, e.g. house price/deposit, search costs you know about, solicitor's estimate from their initial quote, leaving you just the extra small bit to transfer at the last minute. Thereby minimising hiccups. It's easier to find/transfer, say, £100-200 or £10-20, than £250k0

Not a bad idea, thanks - the purchase deposit has already been sent thankfully (did this last week, prior to exchange). The payment I need to make will be all the solicitors own costs and fees (final bill). Unsure how the completion statement from the vendors solicitors influences my final bill?
Overall, I'm just worried that the vendors solicitor won't send the completion statement tomorrow (they've had 3 working days to get this sent over since exchange)0 -

Yes, it is0 -
I imagine that it will probably be due to service charges proportioned out amongst other things0

Be careful transferring money before you know the correct amount ... You could end up paying your bank twice for the payment to go through. £35 a pop for a fast transfer adds up! Just be ready, but hold fire until the solicitor knows the correct amount.0

Cheers, fortunately my bank has a generous limit on how much I can transfer in one day through the app/online banking (I even sent the 10% deposit via online banking!)0 -
Our solicitor 'forgot' to add an extra fee to our completion statement, and told us we owed an extra £90 the day before completion! Luckily we could pay with a debit card but we were really angry about it when we first got the email and thought we'd have to pay for a second transfer0
