LOLing thinking about that episode of Friends where the posh hotel won't let Chandler cancel his booking (Monica can't make it), so he takes Ross and they steal all the stuff to get their money back :rotfl:0

My mum runs a small 5* B&B, they add nice little touches to the rooms like little jars of sweets, she provides a home made cake in the hallway for the guests to help themselves, robes in the rooms plus the usual tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits.
They also provide large (250ml ish) bottles of coconut bath foam, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and soap for people to use during their stay, then they top them up for the next guests. The large bottles are there to imply that people can use them, but they arent fair game to take.
She had a young couple go through their room and literally take everything, the nice kettle, the robes, towels, all the bottles, teas, coffees etc. If every guest did this then they would go out of business and the little touches like this that make your stay nice, will go out of style because businesses cant afford to give people £50 worth of free stuff on an £80 a night spend!
I do agree that the little one use shampoo/conditioner can be taken home as these will probably only go in the bin after.
My mums B&B takes all the half empty loo rolls and puts them in our family bathroom to save them being thrown away (for those who were asking about loo roll)
This does remind me of the friends episode with Ross though lol0 -
No, of course it's not ethical - it just isn't illegal, probably. But talk about penny-pinching! Wow.0

if you are in a travellodge just decant the wall dispensers.

I believe these items are left for us to use if we want them not to be gathered by greedy individuals for profit. If we all took everything that was offered for our use from the room and at breakfast for example then we would soon see costs escalate and choices diminish. Use or eat whatever we need and leave the rest. Doing more than that is sheer greed and sadly reflects the moneygrabbing culture so prevalent in this country at the moment.0

You've paid for them so do as you wish. But, really, is it worth it? You'd need to be shifting industrial quantities to make it worth any more than the merest pin money. Don't forget you've got eBay fees, Paypal fees, costs of packaging, postage, etc. Better to keep them for your own personal use - save money by not buying them in the shops.0

They're not free (nothing's free) they're included in the cost of the room. You've paid for them so you can do what you want with them.0

where I used to work, a girl in the office would collect the complimentary mini shampoo, soap, conditioner etc from people who travelled on business, and she'd take them to the local battered women shelter - for the benefit of people who turn up, sometimes with children, desperately in need and sometimes having left home with only what they are wearing. The shelter - and the women - were always immensely grateful. I always thought that these mini toiletries were complimentary and therefore mine to take - and I always took them for the charity0

Surely that's why places take your credit card details?
And with reference to the OP I think they only mean the individual bottles that are left in the room each day, not stealing armfuls from the maids trolleys when they're not looking! It seems that's what some people on here are thinking!0 -
Who would even bother? The tiny sample sizes would hardly boost anyone's income. The postage and packaging would come to more!
