It will probably be worth getting rid of the auto-enrolment sub-section as most people use the main pension one.

Personally, I am not sure having an early Retirement board is a good idea. There are already fears with consumer groups about people taking their pensions too early and paying more tax than they need to. A sub-board could be seen to be promoting that as a good option when it wouldnt be for most.

The pension section itself doesnt get a lot of traffic and if you keep diluting it across multiple sections, then it just means the same people that answer questions in one forum ending up having to check 2 or 3 forums.

Thanks I guess? For not listening to the majority opinion.

Would you please just give us back our stickies then? Instead of hiding them. Esp the ones on the abbreviations.

So is the definition of "Early Retirement", retirement before State Pension Age, or retirement before the Normal Retirement Age of an occupational pension scheme, or is there another specific age before which retirement is early?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I'm so pleased that Gally girl has mentioned this. I've been frantically looking for several days to find that bit from MSE Andrea. I even tried to stalk her a little to find the comment (Sorry, Andrea!).

This is perfect. I really, really want a diary-based sub forum. I have over 40 years before the State Pension age. Absolutely no-one can tell me anything about how my pension and my partners pension is going to work. And that's fine, but in the meantime there's a lot of life going on, sickness and families and deaths and pay raises and promotions. I can throw as much as I can into a pension, but what if the lifetime allowance drops again? We're starting so early and have a fair amount of extra cash to dedicate to it right now, thanks to having JUST bought our house outright, after only 18 months of mortgage, due to an inheritance. If we get a fair bit of luck and planning, £300 a month each for the next thirty years would put us in the realm of a LOT of tax. Where else am I going to keep tweaking my plan with input from people with the benefit of experience?

I come here and have a look at the information, but SO much of it doesn't apply to me, and is so serious. We've taken the opportunity to read a lot on the benefits of ISAs vs pensions and asset allocation and regular small payments vs large irregular payments (and lots of other info about investing). We don't need to know in depth about the regulations now for drawing out our pension pot, we'll need that info 20 or 30 years from now. We know what we need to do now is allocate as much as we can spare to the future.

I'd like somewhere to put up irregular SOAs and talk about rejigging my investments as well as what I've done to generate income or reduce expenditure or how I've managed to accomplish something else to do with life planning.
And this isn't being catered for here, yet.

Looking forward to the board. Thanks again gallygirl.

I wonder what is envisaged by way of diaries?

Personally I find updating my early-retirement 'diary' on Marine Life's long-running thread twice a year is plenty, and maybe three times per year if something interesting happens.

Could be a few very slow threads in that sub-board :D

If that is the purpose of the sub-forum then thank goodness it will be in a sub-forum where i never have to visit. God help us if that ever found its way to be mixed in in with the main board.

I revise my view on this now. Let all the people who want to post diaries do so in a sub forum to allow most of us to avoid reading such things. However, dont label it as something people who want help or questions should post as they will likely get lost in with the diaries and not get the responses they would get if they had posted in the main pension section.

I'm sorry if people who like posting their affairs on the internet take offence at my point of view. I just dont get this modern fascination of everything about you being posted online. If it makes you happy then thats great. However, i don't care what you had for breakfast ;)

    ;)

I agree with this and suggest the sub forum should be only for diaries, just as the MFW forum essentially is.

Also agree with Coyris' point. How is there a difference between planning for retirement and planning for early retirement -and what is "early" in any case ?

Fine to have diaries in a sub forum if that is what people want, but this main board needs to remain the place where people ask questions and receive answers

My definition might be that it's when you've accumulated an adequate "Get stuffed!" fund. A better title might be "Financial Independence".
